let's start talking about how we will beat Melbourne.

We have a side that can bounce quickly. If we stick with the plan and Raper doesn't make unnecessary changes then we can beat Melbourne and regain our momentum.

I think the way to beating Melbourne is with a very deep attacking line. You just go around them. Vagana is just the man to be heavily involved in this. If Kimmorley can get the ball to him early enough then he will slice them up out wide.

One thing really really pisses me off with the sharkies play, 99/100 times from a scrum it goes like this:

Kimmorley to Bailey, Bailey tackled!

Its so predictable! The opposition must be havin a ball, 'wander who's gona run it this time, oh, wat ya kno, Bailey AGAIN'? Wats with this? They think Bailey is gona smash his way thru? He hasnt done so yet. Against the Dragons however u note they spread it wide and look for a overlap, we just aernt lookin to break free, playing to passive.

Good call Sharkies all the way.
What I want to know is how the opposition is always right on our advantage line when Bailey gets the ball?
Sometimes Ben Johnson couldnt get there that fast.( when Ben was "flying").
I know this play is telegraphed but the refs seem to run with the opposition teams.
They have to change it.

I noticed that too, some variation from the scrum base, wouldn't go astray. I guess when the teams confidence is down they make the safe plays. We have to dominate in the forwards against Melbourne. Throwing the ball wide too early will fall into their hands.

Back in ET's day I used to look forward to scrums
The long flowing backline movements with all the decoys and everything were a real highlight of the game

the best way to beat the storm is to not play like you did against the dragons

I'm with you MCsharkie, I think we will bounce back.

Our team goes better when less is expected, there was an expectation on the weekend that we would roll the dragins after two wins on the run, but realistically, we are not up to their level.......YET.

Later in the year we will meet them again and beat them.

But without the pressure of expectation, we will play better down south. The team is flying down on saturday and back early sunday, a hit and run mission, pure business.

I think the team should remain the same like you say, more game time from our best player sullivan would help us.

But the bottom line is, we need to go up the middle HARD v the storm, we went away from that V the dragins and got belted.

NOddy needs to be more deliberate with his atacking kicks, not the fluffy little chips that he has fallen in love with since Dumas' try V the eels, but some real testing cross fielders with pressure on the chase.

Our kicks chase was aweful and a good kick chase can unsettle slater.

The kick chase was awful, something that needs to be improved on. They need more urgency in their game this week. Guys should be busting their guts to chase after a kick.

I don't think we can beat Melb up the guts though, that's their strength. We certainly have to muscle up in defense there but I think we should play a very expansive, deep line in attack. With guys hitting the ball at speed running angles we should calve them up on the fringes.

Another point for this week. Billy Slater is a magician with the ball but I see plenty of weaknesses in his defensive game. I say bomb the bejesus out of him this week. Really put him under alot of pressure and he will make mistakes.

Thank you Beeks.
This side, IMHO, is slowly coming together. There are signs there of good things to come. We just need to be patient.

The measure of a good side is how they bounce back after a shellacking. I have every confidence these guy's pride will have been hurt so much on Saturday they'll come out all guns ablazing this weekend.

I know it's getting to the stage where finals aspirations can seem a little far off but I'm not losing hope just yet

So what will a well rilled and commited attack do to us. 40 points.
Things have to change. And remember when we all said stuff like this when Langy had them.

I dissagree with this up the middle stuff . I think we should go early wide, tire them out , run them around , kick clever , pin them in their own 25 , hammer them there and see what happens. In the later half let Sullivan run up the middle or a bit wide with SUPPORT . Jeez why not!

Because Raper is devoid of ideas, he thinks Bailey is the ants pants, he's nothing.

That seems to be a problem, placing the task of getting off our line to Bailey, it aint working. I just dont know why they dont spread it wide! We have got a descent back line and it has been apparent they can get it over the line or at least threaten to when given the opportunity. Like Vagana against St George, one play he made stuck in my mind cos I was right near it, when he went for corner post to score but was tackled out . Nothing was doing their but he had the ability to get through a wall of defenders to nearly score!
