Impressive stats

I love stats, so just been on the NRL site and came up with a few that quite frankly make impressive reading.

  • We have the 2nd best attack in the comp behind the Panthers (281 269)
  • We have the best defence with only 123 points conceded.
  • We have the best for/against points of 146, the only team above 100
  • Of our 9 wins 8 have been by 13+
  • We have scored the 2nd most tries (47) behind the panthers (48)
  • We have runs the most metres 16753m compared to Tigers (2nd) 14868
  • Completed the most sets 385
  • Most dummy half runs
  • 2nd least mistakes behind the panthers
  • Most kick metres
  • 2nd most line breaks behind the Bunnies
  • 2nd most offloads
  • Completed the most tackles
  • Only team without a bye so far, so adding in points for everyone's byes that puts us 4 points clear on the table.
  • 1 of 2 teams to keep the opposition to nil and only team to do it twice

Phew think i got them all, might be time for a lie down now LOL

I did this as its pissing down here in NZ and not much else to do. Its only half way through the season and we still have a hell of alot to do before we can lift the trophy of the two blokes hugging.

All the best everyone, hope you have a great weekend

The Bennett factor is incredible. Best buy in years.
The guys are playing out of their skin with his coaching style.
The players would be enjoying the improvement in their game. Fitness levels are up compared to 5 years ago, surely.

Some pretty impressive stats from the panthers as well, they seem to be going along nicely. It is a shame we will play them with Origin players out.

The Panthers are yet to play anyone of note.

Haven't played us or Manly.....Brisbane & Parra to a lesser extent.
They did play the Titans and got dusted.

The draw has been kind to Penrith so far this year, inflating their position on the table.

I'll be interested to see what they can do tomorrow against the Bunnies.

More importantly, given most teams have had the bye, stats like most tackles, most metres are a bit meaningless at this point, as we've played every week. Are we wnning Average metres, for example?

Some pretty awesome stats there
on a personal note, Jamie Soward broke Piggy Riddell's JV record for most goals and most points for StGI earlier in the season.

and i think that loyalest supporters should count as a stat. Just saying...

2nd best Offloads (parra 179, St George 153)
Most kick return metres
most tackle busts 470
Most runs (which could explain the most run metres)

As impressive as the stats are I must say what impressed me most last night was:The speed at which the team got their defensive line set despite some tired players backing up.
Keeping the ball in play and backing their fitness despite more backing up players than their oppositon.
Darius Boyd's aggression hitting the line
Sowards kicking throughout
Nightingale taking the pressure off his team mates who were backing up
Ben Creagh and Hornby just playing their heart out
The DA supporters flying the flag and getting behind their team
Not dropping intensity and letting Parra score in 80 mins
The whole team
Feeling of pride watching them play for each other
F*ck everything about them.

Keeping the ball in play

I think this is a very good point
Last night we didnt see sowie kick as much to the sideline, looking for a scrum 10 out at the other end of the field. They really just got the ball to sit up at the other end, set a defensive line and didnt give parra a breather.

Fitness is a key. If we can go the whole half without a scrum, but our opposition cant, why kick for touch (and slow the game down)?

My 2c worth - being a long suffering Dragons supporter - I no longer sweat bricks when we are defending our own line. Under previous coaches we leaked like a rusty barge when defending inside our 10 but last night, even with an impressive lead, the boys showed up to defend (and have been doing it since God came to town last season)..

Youre right Ritzley Bennett has instilled a real belief within the team in their defensive ability. You can see they really hate conceding a point.

Love all the stats but can we remember that we have yet to have a bye. Therefore the attack stats are inflated, and the defensive stats are understated.

THese stats can only be achieved if you have a great coach and players respect the coach and follow game plans. Looks like we have both. Great effort to the boys. If they beat the Warriors they will be on 22pts by round 14. Add another 2 for the bye and that is 24. 4 more wins and they are top 8 guaranteed.

They will have the luxury of resting players and keeping them fresh for the Finals whilst everyone else will be playing for their finals positions.

4 more wins after the warriors and we will be gauranteed top 4 not top 8.

I can't see 32 points not being enough for the top 4.

loved the way nightingale played friday night, he was in everything, defended well, ran the ball back, gave the forwards a breather, scored a try, can he kick for goal.

If kiwi loved stats I would have thought the P column would have been a bit obvious. I wouldn't be surprised if we still led a lot of those stats once averages were taken into account but it would still be nice to see those averages.
