The playoff between the NSW conference winners, Newcastle Knights, and the national conference winners, Perth Reds, will be played at the newly opened Henny Penny Stadium at Newcastle. Locals are not expected to know what the plastic things in the grandstand are used for.

Pepe, the first CEOfor the Collingwood Wobbles in the NRL, hasretired today. The pepster, as he was affectionately known by club chairman Ed McGuire, said that he could no longer take it. "Im a true club man. I was a life long supporter of St George (until Melbourne came along), and now im going back to my roots"

***Pepe will head back to Adelaide next year, to follow the Orioles in the National Netball league. Word is he will be chief pom-pom shaker***

HARRIGAN ESCAPE BID FOILED

Sydney, 21 October 2012: Former first grade referee, Bill Harrigan is safely behind bars tonight following a failed escape bid from Silverwater gaol.

Harrigan was sentenced five years ago to the day for his part in the 1999 grand final fiasco. He was midway through his 10 year sentence when he decided to dig his way out like a mole under the prison toilet block.

In a moment of indecision, Harrigan hesitated in his escape when he was spotted by a TV crew who were conducting interviews with anyone they ran into. By the time the interview was completed, prison guards were alerted and Harrigan was quickly dragged back to his cell, in chains.

Harrigan's newpublication'A faithless mongrel whose excrement has finally been wiped from the pavement of rugby league' was released last week. It has quickly found itself into the book store's bargain bins through lack of interest.

In other news, hair gel stocks have plummetted again.

Will the 2 rugby codes still be separate in 10 or 15 years?

steve, the codes would never get together, there will always be talk of amalgamating to fill up the pages in the media however,it's like baseball and softball becoming one.

pepe

ps,by the way,league=baseball

pepe: Baseball and softball, a good analogy. Except softball is a watered-down version of baseball, baseball being the original sport. So I'm not sure your league=baseball comment fits. In NA, baseball of course is a rich professional sport with a long tradition, where softball (the fast-pitch kind) is a minor sport played mainly at local levels, although in the US the women's version is very popular, with university scholarships and the Olympics.
And baseball isn't signing any softball players to switch codes.
I played softball as a kid and teen, when it was the popular sport in my town. When I got older youth baseball came along and replaced it, I think partly because ML Baseball came to Canada. Now fast-pitch softball is very rare, but lots of older guys play slow-pitch in recreational leagues
