In a deep dark hole once again

I remember a few years back, listening to Taylor, Goh and Pascoe telling us we have to take our medicine and our cap has been mis managed and we had to wade through a couple of really hard years. The words were loud and clear that we would be smarter and stronger when we got the books balanced.

Taylor gets flicked and in walks Cleary with basically a war chest at his disposal and the board and CEO give him a cheque book to do what he wants without any questions. Now the ho.e is deeper and we have turned the clock back four years.

Every club makes mistakes, but to make the same mistake time and time again is criminal. Time to clean out the board and demand results. Our club will not survive another 5 years without some resemblance of success. I am sick and tired of having no cap space and roster made up of plodders

How will clearing out the board repair the past or improve the present? Cleary abandoning what he'd started turned everything upside down...most everyone was happy with his rebuild year 1 and how it was conducted up until he stabbed us in the back....the pkayers were onboard with him and improving untill the rug got pulled out from under their feet.
At least we dont have backended contracts or are ( presently at least) paying anyone to play anywhere else....longtime since that was the case.
The cap may be full but it is for most that comply.

Ivan was a creep.

Madge is the exact opposite and deserves a go

Some good footy has been played this year, amongst the forgettable stuff.

Courage.

Courage is waning after 8 years of rubbish, and the prospects of staring yet another rebuild in the face..

It’s not Madge’s fault but looking at their squad and players signed they are cactus the next 18 months..can’t even say there is always next year, because next year the team is going to look the same..

We don’t have back ended contracts, but we do have very long and expensive contracts for a few players who basically for what ever reason can’t cut it anymore

Yes we can blame Cleary, but surely after the last hole we dug ourself out of the board would have been a little concerned at the size and length of some of the contracts we were handing out.

Anyway it is now sit back for another two years in the cellar till the next war chest appears.

Iam over it big time

Madge needs to dig in and tell the players to harden the f**k up. Don't like it then f**k off.

He's from the school of Bellamy, you don't see the Storm players whinging about how hard he is. There's a reason why Madge won a premiership, he demanded nothing but the best from his players.

The coach also needs to be adaptable to the squad and it’s abilities. Bash and barge may have worked at Souths with all those big bodies but it doesn’t work for us.

I don't believe flicking the board is the right way to go but there should be appropriate approvals for long term contracts to be signed and for players to be paid to play elsewhere.

We can survive 5 years easily. We are a club with a lot of support and we aren't that bad a mess off the field.

I think we have a good coach who knows what is required to win the comp.

Should we throw the ball to our elusive backs ?

I think you need forwards who dent the line and get a roll on. We have two of those in our squad - Aloiai and Mikaele and both of them require a bit of polish.

We have something to build around but we do need to get some better players in but we can't because of our cap situation. I think we need to give Madge a chance and there has been some changes already.

Who's talking tactics? I'm talking attitude.

Attitude also comes from the player's belief of what can be achieved through the tactics given

EDIT - It also falls on the 6, 7 and 9 on the field. They should be demanding the forwards dig in. Get right up them, embarrass them on the field if they have to. I don't care about Marshall and Farah because we know what we get with them but Brooks either needs to lead or walk

OK I'll concede that, but is that much of an ask for a player to even attempt what a coach is asking? I mean we've got the likes of Packer not living up to their pay packet so what does he do when the coach asks for more? He has a sulk., no wonder the coach doesn't want him there.

Agree, when you are being very well paid per season, then you expect your performance to be scrutinized, there are lot of people depending on the player to deliver.
If the player doesn't have the belief in the coach, then man up and get an explanation or leave.

I totally agree. They have to realise that are being paid to perform at an elite level and that comes with scrutiny of their performances.

For a half to declare he’s taking ownership of the team Brooks is as quiet as a church mouse as well as never developing the passing & kicking games to steer the side.

In addition to the insane recruiting by Cleary Egan & Pascoe they should never have re-signed Brooks to undertake the pivotal role of game manager.Successful clubs with a superior rugby league IQ wouldn’t touch Brooks with a barge pole. Its so obvious y Isaac the scumbag moses never gave us any grief re brooks’s last contract. Its coz unsurprisingly there was no interest in him from other clubs.

We have a multitude of issues not the least of which is not having a quality game manager who possesses much nous.

I think we all need to stop thinking of Brooks as some sort of game manager. He is quick and can kill teams with his running game. He can set up a try and he has a decent kicking game both long and short.

He is a good half and there aren't many good halves in the comp but all the talk about him owning the team is palava. Brooks needs a quality team with threats all around him. If you put him in the Rorters team he'd be great.

We’ve known that for a long time. He’ll never be the leader we need on the field though if Maguire can get him out of his shell then maybe there is a half chance.

Brooks is one of the only shinning lights in our whole club IMO. Okay he is not Joey Johns, but Joey Johns would struggle to direct our team around the paddock, also trying lay a play on for your outside backs who can’t run out of sight on a dark night is near impossible

I want him to be better but he is so far down the list of our problems it's not funny.
