India Rugby...

The main problem with rugby in India is competing with cricket. Cricket reigns supreme on the subcontinent and because of the climate there is no real off season. Still It's a huge country and shouldn't be ignored entirely. Pakistan is another possibility, they have more of a winter there and would certainly have no shortage of big, aggressive athletes ideal for either Rugby code.

I could be wrong Holc, but I think India (and maybe Pakistan) are quite big on weight lifting as a sport.
Im pretty certain they were in contention for Commonwealth Games medals...

The potential for rugby in India is huge, but it will take 20+ years before anything comes up from it.

India have got big people too, but they are mainly found in the north-west of the country.

Alot of Indians seem to be vegetarian, and that kind of works against people who want to succeed in rugby.

Sri Lanka have got 90k players even though its hot there.

Too right Marcus, thats why I suggested Pakistan as well, because most of the bigger people in India are from that region bordering Pakistan in the northwest. Incidentally those are the more Muslim areas where people tend to eat more meat and dairy products. It is mainly the Hindus and Bhuddists who are vegos.

Ali,

You must learn to interpret stats before u go laughing at your betters. Sri lanka has 25 senior teams with approx 1800 players,BUT the future is assured with approx 45000 teenage players and a similar number of pre teen players. In total over 90,000 players plus females of about 2,000. Looks like Marcus was correct and u were once again out of your depth.     :D :D :D

Do they count anyone who once picked up an oval ball at school, just like the ARU count players forced to do coaching clinics at school in their official playing stats?

The problem with inexperienced side in league and union is that once they are behind by 20 points they tend to give up so it tends to become a route. Also the lack of fitness is a huge factor. They usually give plenty in the first 10 mins of each half then lose their rag.
