There are 2 things to consider

1. What players are unavailable
2. Out of that list - what players would have been in the Australian side?

Here is a few I can think of that are unavailable - you can decide for yourself if they would have been there:

Andrew Johns
Jamie Lyon
Brent Tate
Nathan Hindmarsh
Shaun Timmins
Jason Ryles
Luke Bailey
Trent Barrett
Justin Hodges
Matt Gidley
Timana Tahu
PJ Marsh
Ben Kennedy

Also - here are a few players who were fit as far as I know but weren't considered good enough
Steve Price
Mark O'Meley
Preston Campbell
Shaun Berrigan
Nathan Blacklock
Ryan Cross
Ryan O'Hara
Luke Davico

Also here would be an ideal test team considering everyone was fit

1. Lockyer
2. Minichello
3. Lyon
4. Justin Hodges
5. Sing
6. Barrett
7. Johns
8. Webcke
9. Buderus
10. Luke Bailey
11. Kennedy
12. Fitzgibbon
13. Ricketson

14. Wing
15. Hindmarsh
16. Civenaceva
17. Ryles

You can argue on what the ideal team would be and there are always a few injuries - but looking at that it would seem that at least half of the players currently there would have been there anyway.

Seems the biggest loss has been in the halves though

So this team isn't and Australian B, C or D side as some people have been saying - more like Australia B+

Not to take away form Bazza's list, but consider the injured/unavailable top line players for the GB and NZ teams. Both teams have much smaller player bases than the Roos too.

Injured/Unavailable GB players (this is all I can think of)
Paul Wellens
Keiron Cunningham
Terry O'Connor
Ryan Bailey
Chev Walker (latter two incarcerated)
Leon Pryce (due for sentencing)

Injured/Unavailable NZ Players around the last test
Vaealiki
Hohaia
Jones
Rauhihi
Kearney
Swain
Paul
Vainikolo (latter two both in SL GF)

Both NZ & GB have more players unavailable to add to the above lists, no sides will have any excuses.

Also unavailable
Gorden Tallis (yes, I know he's retired, but it was late)
Bryan Fletcher
Steve Menzies
Mark Gasnier

I think everyone on your list ber PJ Marsh, and everyone on mine would be in a first-string squad.

The best test side would look something like this (I've left Tallis out since he's retired)

Lockyer
Sing/Tahu
GirdlerTate/Gidley
Lyon
Minichello
Barrett
Johns (c)
Ricketson
Kennedy
Fletcher/Hindmarsh
Webcke
Buderus
Bailey L

Res
Ryles
Wing
Civonociva
Hindmarsh/Fletcher

Another question though, how much better is the side that played the test against us (NZ) earlier in the year than the current side (I'd reckon 30+ points). So, should the Kiwis and, if they beat them, the Poms, get too excited? I'd suggest not... the domination of Australia is far from over.

well if you look at it this way
the top 4 teams in the minor premiership
had all their players fit with the exception of Hodges and Croker
so australia have no excuses if they lose

Why would anyone look at it that way????? :? :? :? that's just irrelevant!

But, there can be no excuses, the Aussies have the squad they selected, and that's the end of it.

What I was saying is that even if they lose the Ashes, there is still little doubt that Australia has the strongest base of players, and the most depth. Any ranting and raving to the contrary from Poms or Kiwis is just silly (and I'm a kiwi). We'll both beat them occasionally, but in the forseeable future they will still win most games.

But, god the blowtorch will be applied to the undies in this series....

That is true - if GB had as many players unavailable they would be struggling - but the England A game and last years schoolboy results showed they have some decent players coming through.

Both NZ and GB have introduce junior representative programs similar to Australia (equivalent to Jersey Flegg and SG Ball) over the past 2 or 3 years so hopefully this should lead to more quality players coming from these countries

Because their the 4 teams in form
and have been for the entire season
so they should make up about 85% of the squad
if you picked a team on form
but they never do
