I'll tell you what, it's not the AFL that is a threat to the NRL's ongoing existence. It's concussion and the impact it has on player's lives.

Indeed, I envisage a time where collision or heavy contact sport of any kind is forbidden. Rugby League of the future will be a virtual reality game played in living rooms.

Newcastle hooker injury curse so strong it got our hooker Randall and even the invincible Cam Smith...

Surely this bad luck can't continue??

Fair dinkum though, can we just have one season with some luck on the injury front? I'd like to see the injury stats for the last 15-20 years. We'd have to be right up there for worst luck, especially with serious injuries and injuries to key players at the worst times.

He's a rookie and was just bad timing I thought he'd committed himself to the tackle, but fair enough.

Personally I want more of whatever we can get away with, bully em, bash em and intimidate the bastards into submission.

It's why I love watching Barny so much. ALPHA f**king male.
I think he was under pretty serious fatigue at that point and the intent was purely to pressure the kicker, which I want to see BUT that type of challenge on a kicker has been pretty well stamped out of the game for quite a few years now because it can do serious damage and potentially be season ending to a player who has no way of protecting himself in that situation.

From what I've seen of Pasami in his career so far is that he is tough, physical but not a 'cheap shot merchant' - if he can emulate what Barnett is doing and manage the aggressive intent under fatigue, then he will be great for us going forward

Possibly 1 to 3 weeks for DSaf if isolated to scar tissue.
"ORIGIN PROP RE-INJURES KNEE

Daniel Saifiti, in his first game back after five weeks sidelined, twisted the same left knee while attempting to make a tackle and immediately left the field midway through the first half.

The fresh injury is suspected to relate to scar tissue from a previous PCL issue. He was some chance to return in second half but the Knights took a cautious route.

Hopefully there’s no new damage. If isolated to scar tissue, most players are able to return in 1-3 weeks. "

Sounds like there's still a chance McCullough could play this year assuming we make the finals?

Cavalry returning
It has been an unprecedentedly tough year for injuries for most NRL clubs with the Knights hit as hard as anyone.

Seven regular top graders - Daniel Saifiti, Jayden Brailey, Connor Watson, Sione Mata'utia, Andrew McCullough, Bradman Best and Edrick Lee - will be missing against the Cowboys tomorrow.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel for Adam O'Brien and his squad as the club looks to cement a finals berth over the next few weeks and build some momentum leading into the big end of season games.

Saifiti should be back for the Warriors next weekend or the Sharks the following week, Mata'utia could return for the Sharks clash or a week later against the Roosters after six weeks off while Best should be cleared to take on the Titans in the final round before the play-offs, which will be almost seven weeks after his ankle surgery.

It has already been eight weeks since Lee suffered a broken arm against Manly with the club hopeful he could return for the Dragons in the second last round or the Titans.

There are even indications out of the Knights camp that while Brailey and Watson are gone for the year, McCullough may not have played his last game for the club as has been suggested and could potentially play a part during the final series, provided Newcastle gets there as is now likely.

Of course, railing against the optimism of getting players back will be the fear of losing others over the final six games.

McCollough return would be interesting. Depending on our form going into the finals will we need him? I guess so and put Mann onto the bench.
