Apparently Covell hurt his back in the gym but should be ok to play, but Hilder's only a slight chance of playing. Looks like Bird to hooker and Aitkin at 5/8.

Well that would be a selection gamble wouldnt it.
Didnt Bird play hooker a couple of times before as a sub?
No matter anyway, he can play anywhere this versatile centre of the sharks universe.

On a serious note, you have to feel for Aitken. He has only ever been called into a team suffering mass disruptions & shake your head selections.
His first game with Kimmorley

On Bird handling the defense of hooker, I, not surprisingly will go against that. I expect him to get done for a highs shot & be off, reported or penalised as the extra workload tires him, & his poor technique worsens.

I can go with that.

Bird will only be required for the first 20 minutes @ hooker. Hopefully he won't get to excited and go high etc.

Still I give Aitken a chance to play well as he will not be required to the run the team and be the primary kicker, leaving him to organise the backs and run the ball - something I think he has in him..

Wonder what Birds distribution from dummy half will be like?

I think he can handle the position. I assume he will be there for the first 20 minutes and be under instructions to play it simple - good distribution to Noddy or a ball runner from dummy half, limited dummy half running, and good solid defence.

After 20 minutes he will go th the bench and then be used as a backrower!!

What happened to changing one position for another? i.e. giving Kevin Kingston a run.

It certainly seems that the coaching staff feel this way, doesnt it.

This would mean hes played-

5/8
Half
2nd Row
Lock and now
Hooker.

He only needs to play fullback, wing and front row and hes done em all. It worries me because...

a) Hes not very good to begin with, and

b) For a player to be developed he needs to be nurtured and supported in the one position. Keep shifting him around and hell get confused and wont get any better. Ideally, put him in PL and get him to CONCENTRATE on the one position and he may well improve to first grade standard, if not, keep him as a utility benchman, but for gods sakes not as a stop gap for ANY position on the field.

I'd prefer Kingston as well DJDL. Nevertheless, I think Bird can handle hooker for 20 minutes!!

They'll keep shifting Bird 'till they find the right position for him, so here's hoping they try him at water boy real soon.

I hope Aitken gets a run, and I hope Stevo plays, Aitken always seems to get the rough end of the pineapple in regards to the ideal starting line up.

Love your sig DJDL.

Hope he eases up on the strength of his passes. He has a tendency to throw bullets, a hangover from the Ando flat attack. Funny Kimmorley does it to.

If he doesn't learn to use softer hands for forwards hitting it up there will be a lot of dropsy.

I'm actually happy it's not going to be Sully as I was told. I'm not happy for Kevin Kingston though.

Wonder how Sully and Kingston feel about it. One signed a contract understanding he would get the chance to start some games. One is in red hot form in PL.

That's a real bummer about Hilder. He'd played all of his games consecutively.

As for Bird at Hooker, I'm not a fan but I guess we'll have to wait and see. It could prove to be a masterstroke, who knows? Stranger things have happened.

Someone also mentioned Kevin Kingston, he's been carving up down there apparently and has been for the last few years. What does that bloke need to do to get into firsts? I'd feel pretty sh*tty that I was overlooked by someone like Bird who isn't even a specialist.

Anyone know when Kingston's contract ends?

We would'nt want him getting snatched by other clubs especially the way he has been playing in reserves...

I doubt they'd need to 'snatch' him mate. I'd say he's probably champing at the bit to get out of the place.

Lets hope not Booyah. Im not saying Hilder is'nt doing a good job but it would great to have a specialist #9 in the team in the future especially someone solid like Kingston. The last specialist #9 we had was Treister.

Along with half the Sharks players in the PL team apparently. Pelo, Ciraldo, Goldy are all likely to leave. Don't be surprised if Merritt seeks a release. Others that are off contract would be at long odds to stay as well.
