Instagram copies Snapchat

Is anyone following along with this?

Basically, instagram came out today and shamelessly copied snapchat by allowing one to upload photos/videos as part of a story that is only visible to followers for 24 hours. Instagram now has it right at the top of their app making it hard to miss a new story.

In less than a day since this has happened I am already seeing a lot of confusion with influencers having no idea what to do. Some are posting on instagram and not snapchat - already.

If you are new to this, snapchat has become pretty huge, especially with the younger market, and Zuckerburg (owns instagram) has been gunning for them for quite some time. I had just got on snapchat over the last month and quite like it but I don't have time to post stories on both and was just using instagram to post travel pics. Considering I have about 20 followers on snapchat and 350 on instagram it would make sense to move to instagram.

Will be interesting to see where this goes as I believe Zuckerburg has tried something like this before but perhaps now he has got the timing right. If anyone knows the story better please correct!

Snapchat was already on shaky ground, it offers f**k all, I'm amazed it's held on this long.

Snapchat has exploded with celebrities. It's almost the new twitter. Celebs share what they are doing in that instant moment. As above has mentioned - it's almost the biggest form of marketing right now. Folllow people like the Rock, the Kardashians etc... They rake in the $$$ from these apps.

Be interesting to see if celebs convert over to Insta though..

Thought that myself when I first tried it a year ago. I suppose you just need to watch those that use it well for a few days and then you get motivated to make your own stories occasionally. The problem with snapchat is that it is very hard for people to find you to follow you unless you ask someone to. Instagram has a solution to that in built.

So what's the actual problem here.

Too many options for "celebrities" to release their pithy brain farts?

Well people love Snapchat which is why it is worth $19 billion and now they have some competition. You would think only one will come out as victor because snapping your life on two app's would be too time consuming. Instagram has advantages that Snapchat doesn't (discovery and people already have more followers there than snapchat). I can see how it all probably seems trivial but phones have already become extensions of our hands so I find it interesting to see where things go.

From what I'm hearing, even though Instagram did a Melania Trump on Snapchat it's turning out pretty well for them.
All they need to do is add some stupid filters and this can potentially kill snapchat.

Exactly. Snapchat probably still has some tricks up its sleeve to fight back but my guess is a slow death - especially once the teen crowd moves on to something new and cooler.
