Everything Smith said in the beginning of that argument I'm against - I didn't both reading anything after moving the GF to ANZ and Origin in Melbourne.

What a f**king disgrace.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but the game was better under Gallop!

1. The talk about moving the grandfinal is just to get a competitive bid from sydney/ANZ. by saying their are alternatives means the nsw government and ANZ Stadium have to at least come up with a competitive bid. The GF will always be in Sydney. One game of origin every 3 years isn't that bad, the MCG game this year was a spectacle, was great publicity for our game and made a bucket load of money.

2. Crowds- he does see that as a problem, talk of better stadiums amd infrastructure is a step in the right direction.

3. TV deal. Notice how he shut down rothfield and rothfield didn't ask a follow up? He still has 2 and a half year to seal a deal, sounds like he is currently in control of those negotiations

4. Said in 10 years he sees 2 extra teams in the nrl, stronger growth in the Pacific, and increased overall fan base. These are the things we want to hear from our CEO

He is not perfect, he has made mistakes, but at the very least he is trying to grow our game unlike Gallop who deliberately stagnated the game so fox could continue to have a cheap product that it made billions off dollars of

Diego, he has softened our game to an unenjoyable level! Rugby League has always been a CONTACT sport. People are going to get hurt, things are going to go wrong, but the players are fully aware of that. Softening the game up is doing more harm than good as crowds are finding the game more boring and not turning up to it as a result.

Tv ratings may contradict that. We may be getting on average a few hundred less people through the gates but we are getting thousands more eyes viewing the game. Record crowds for finals and origin, smashing our rivals for tv viewership is not exactly driving the fans away from our game. The trick is to get more people through the gates and at least he is trying to do something about that.

As for softening the game, as much as i loved the shoulder charge, it probably did have to go. There are still big hits on our game and it's still by far one the toughest team sport. Nrl had to do something about concussion, especially after the legal and moral problems that affected the NFL, and these changes would of happened no matter who was in control of the game.

There was nothing soft about adam blairs tackles in the GF, Matais hit on Tyrell was as good as any hit you'll find in the last 100 years, to say the games gone soft because there's no shoulder charges or punches shows some people have no idea

Regarding shoulder charges, there is nothing wrong with them as long as they don't make contact with the head - if contact is made with the head, then yes, a penalty should be awarded.

As for the concussion rule, I have nothing against that provided that it doesn't count as an interchange - which it does..

But the shoulder charge rule is reviewing everything on the video is slowing the game down and not helping.

Throw on top of that other things the fans don't want, ie 2 referees, golden etc... Smith isn't helping in that regard!

Then when you look at David Gallop, look at how much further Football in Australia has stepped forward.

I'm a fan. Smith's got things going in the right direction after years of mediocrity under Gallop & News.

A lot easier when you start from basically nothing. Mind you they have two clubs on the brink of collapse in Newcastle and Brisbane and a player revolt against their pay deal.

I think after the death of a qld cup player from a shoulder charge, that apperently hit him flush on the chest, we'll never see the shoulder charge come back.
Things like 2 referees, golden point etc don't actually come from Dave Smith. These things come under the Head of Football- Todd Greenberg. These kind of things are usually decided on by committees that feature past players, coaches, rlpa etc. You can't pin these things on Dave Smith.
The A-league struggles to get games on free to air, Dave Smith just settled a deal that'll see 4 live games every week on free to air, for the biggest price in australian tv history. Dave Gallop may be doing a decent job in the a-leagu now, but the whole time he was in the nrl he served his mews ltd bosses first and foremost to the detriment off the game . Oh and 2 referees and golden point came under Gallop.

The Football stuff is all Todd Greenberg.

He should have done something a bit more impressive than run the Bulldogs (Which, considering the cash and fan base they've had since like the 1970s, A blind Freddy could probably do) before being elevated to a much more difficult job.

Newcastle is not his fault, it's Tinkler. Same thing happened to the Knights.

Besides that, look at the powerhouse European clubs he's brought here over the last couple of years, and look at everything else - our team winning the ACL, and hosting (and winning) the Asian Cup. Our (other) game has prospered more than ever.

The point is Rugby League was better under Gallop than it is under Smith.

I'd be happier to see them play all 3 origin games at different venues every year than for them to ever move a grand final.

Origin is a small rep comp that has outgrown its cage and is now ruining the NRL season proper. Crowds are always up for the first 8 weeks, then take a solid nose dive as soon as the origin period starts and never recover till the finals.

If they can shorten the origin period to 3 consecutive wednesdays we'd be much better off. 3 wednesdays in a row, with either a split round or just non-australian internationals to fill in the 2 weekends that fall between. Get it over and done with in a single month so that it isn't this big giant cloud hanging over almost half the f**king season

People keep blaming Greenberg - he doesn't make the decisions, he's just in charge of facing the music (media) when changes are announced. Greenberg doesn't run the game on his own... despite many people on LU thinking he does just that and favors the Bulldogs.

I agree, and as much as I love origin, I think it should be done at seasons end. Imagine having origin this time of year, how AWESOME would that be. The season is over and now that big test begins that doesn't interfere in the clubs preparations.

Gallop did not win and organize the Asian cup and the players that won it were not developed under him.

He is not bringing big clubs. Even Indonesia, which is currently suspended under FIFA due to government interference and all-round spectacular incompetence is drawing big clubs to play there yearly. Indonesia didn't even properly organise visas for Roma this year ffs and still got thrm there. It is a gigantic cash grab.

None of the achievements have happened as a result of Gallop. If the way the A-league fell into a black hole after a successful Asian Cup is anything to base Gallop on, he is doing poorly.

David Smith does not concern himself with rules. He is the business side, and the verdict is out on that until the TV deal is done. Greenberg on the other hand is in charge of football, and oversees rules changes. And he is doing a terrible, terrible job. And that is the facts of the mattER BF.
