Has anyone else noticed a substantial drop in battery life since the upgrade? I haven't yet read anything that says I'm definitely right or wrong but I swear it's true. If there is anything that is running in the background & chewing up the battery now & someone has any info that backs it up could you post it. Thanks.

Depends what iPhone you have - 3G or 3GS I guess. I have a 3G and it's mega-slow now and battery life is much much shorter. I'll be buying an iPhone 4 the minute it comes out.

Yeah, multi tasking isn't implemented too well right now.

So basically every app you open now is gonna stay open and it's killing the battery.

Double tap the home button after closing an app and then hold your finger on the app to close it properly.

I'm also waiting for the iPhone 4, sold my 3GS last week, can't believe how lost I am without it now :(

3gs.

So not closing them in that taskbar actually contributes to the battery draining? I thought it was just a quicker way to find the most used apps as opposed to them essentially "running" the whole time. I'll start turning them off & see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the info fellas.

@Jono: I was actually coming to see if you had sold yours yet!

Yeh, I got $600 for it on eBay. At the time it was the highest priced selling used 3GS 16gb :p.

Then a few hours later someone managed $610. And since then it's all been below $560 lol.

Also it's recommended to change 'push' settings. In other words, if you don't need to receive emails the second you get them, make it so you receive them manually when you hit the 'Mail' button

Yeah I have always had that set to manual, & it is one of the better tips. I'm surprised at how many people dont, especially those who use it for business, & then can't work out where their data allowance goes.

just get a HTC Desire or Google Nexus One and stop killing yourself with proprietary, closed bullsh*t. Android is the way forward.

iOS 4 has f**ked my phone. I've got a iPhone 3g, and it is just too slow, heaps of apps don't work anymore, and it just generally doesn't function properly anymore.

If you talked to me a few months ago I loved iPhones, but after the sh*t my phone has become and talk of all the problems with the iPhone 4, the HTC Desire will be my next phone I think, can't wait!

I'm pretty much the same. The 4G doesn't seem to be all it's meant to be & until the update the 3GS was fantastic. The Google phone is now high on my list of needs.

iOS4 is a massive case of why you don't fix whats not broken IMO.

ill be getting a HTC Desire, $0 upfront on the $49 cap for 24 months with telstra at the moment. excellent price for a top notch Android phone.

if you can afford more, the new Android phone from Samsung is brilliant as far as performance goes. if you like to game on your phone, its 3D performance absolutely sh*ts all over the Desire. i have heard that samsung have been very lazy with pushing their ROM (operating system) updates, though with their previous Android phone. you can't beat HTC for support with Android at the moment, they have the runs on the board and have worked with Android for a while now.

honestly, Apple should be worried. Android is picking up a very large amount of steam with its open source nature. the apps scene is just exploding and uptake is incredible for the platform. it looks to be the way forward.

I'm waiting for the iPhone 4, as iOS4 has rooted my 3G to slow point. Jailbreaking has made it slightly faster but it's still a bit of a disaster.

Anyone upset about iOS4, I'd probably encourage them to wait and see how it performs on iPhone 4 before jumping ship. I don't think iOS4 should've been made available to 3G handsets.

with my 3GS there's been no noticable difference.

I'd be recomending people hold off getting the iphone 4 until we see if they fix the antenna issues/if it's a problem in australia

Yes! Agreed.

Also don't like the fact that every Tom, Dick and Harry has an iPhone. I love the thought of being able to completely customise a HTC Desire to what I want, instead of having an iPhone exactly the same as my girlfriends mum

not really that simple, they have to innovate with their OS to remain competitive.

I agree wholeheartedly there but with no way to rollback, for God knows what reason, & with the high rate of complaints of calls dropping & how much of a power whore it has become have they really innovated? Besides multitasking the majority of what iOS4 brought was cosmetic, & really multitasking isn't anywhere near what it should have been so thats kinda moot also. Maybe they simply screwed up by not thoroughly testing & therefore didn't really grasp the consequences that iOS4 would have on 3G/3GS models, & that's fine, no-one would whinge to loud about that AS LONG AS the ability to downgrade to what actually worked & worked quite well was put back on offer. The bottomline is people who have a 3G or 3GS & get screwed over with this will IMO take a much closer look elsewhere when next purchasing a phone. It's a common theme amongst forum discussions, including on the Apple site, so for a tiny amount of innovation they actually stand to lose quite a few customers I'd guess.

I admit I've been a huge iPhone fanboy for a while now but I don't see this being fixed & to me it seems it's just a concerted effort to push people in to buying a newer model for no apparent reason other than profit.

yeah, that's very poor form from apple to not have a rollback option... particularly considering their inhouse testing was obviously miniscule as evidenced by all the problems people are having. very poor form.

you can actually flash any Android OS onto Android phones... so once again not an issue on the Android platform.

Apple and the iPhone can burn in hell as far as i'm concerned. i'm so against proprietary, locked formats and forcing people to use your software etc. iTunes is a heap of sh*t and always has been... and you shouldn't have to hack the phone to use it the way you want to use it. iPhone innovated in a lot of ways, but newer, far more open technologies with similar or even superior functionality have become available. there's no reason to not consider an Android phone over an iPhone now except for pure blind fanboyism.
