I'm not convinced it's your Ipod that's your problem. It worked fine on W2K and
once you loaded XP it turned to gravy....why on earth would that indicate a problem
with the Apple product.

I'd strongly suggest the problem lies with XP and the interface you are trying to use.

You are right. The visit to the Apple Store confirmed that. It was either that or my HD was screwed. Glad it was the former.

I was referring to the fact that Apple market the iPod as being this shiny thing that can do all sorts of wonderful things, but they don't tell you about the issues it has with pcs, pc software etc and batteries failing etc.....

yep had an ipod compatibility prob initially and i went back and managed to stay cool (somehow). the manager promised to get someone to come to my house and fix it (like that was ever going to happen) but i managed to figure it out myself by usinga usb instead of a firewire (even though my firewire was compatible).

my battery's always been sh*t and i wished I'd had taken it back when it happened and made them replace it cos it's well out of warranty now. i'm getting a 30gb video one soon (cos a mate can get them at cost price) and I plan on thrashing it and taking it back if it even skips once

I've had nothing but great support from Apple. My iBook was a week out of warranty when the logic board died but they replaced it anyway for free 3 times even because the replacement board kept failing. They recognized the problem 9 months later and issued a logic board exchange program for all iBook G3s.

My 20B 4G iPod was failing (skiping songs, not transferring more than 500MB) within the warranty period and they replaced it in 3 days no questions asked.

I have a 30gig ipod video, no problems with it at all. Apart from the fact that it's been dropped twice and I actually slept on it once.

That would be normal for a few people I suppose, but what makes that worse is that video iPods have only been out for 3-4 weeks or so I think.

Are you v. accident prone? LOL

Nah it was my girlfriend who dropped it (she cried after the 2nd time ) but I did sleep on it. It's now got some small scratches on the face, no idea how they got there. I wasn't even within 30 minutes of the ipod when the scratches seemed to appear.

I'm currently on my second iPod.

With my first one, one day it just suddenly refused to upload songs. Had no idea what was going wrong with it, tried everything. Eventually I got fed up and went back to Grace Bros where I had bought it and demanded a new one. With a bit of wrangling, they eventually caved in, and I got a newer model.

Went home, to discover that the new one wouldn't upload music either.

Turns out it was my Firewire card that was dead, not the ipod. Whatever the case, I got a new one for free, with an updated warranty and a newer generation. Not too shabby at all.

I'm on my second iPod too - never a drama with it. I have found they are much more Mac compatable than Windows compatable, but that's more to do with how bad Windows is rather than how good OSX is.

OSX and the iLife suite kicks Windows's arse - for my personal computer I'll never go back to Windows. Ever.

 not bad, might try that one myself!

Well i've had a mini since march and upgraded in july to a 60gb and about the only problem i've had was when the screen froze while it was plugged into my computer. I went to work that day without it obviously, only to come home and find it working once more.

Otherwise , no worries at all. Must be one of the lucky ones.

I feel sorry for all these people who's ipods are buggered. I treat mine like absolute sh*t. It's 18 months old, the front of it has the bejesus scratched out of it and I sleep on it like every night. Never had a problem with it!

I've dropped scissors on mine and it dug two chunks out of the screen, and it still works fine.

The Apple headphones arsed up after a few weeks though, luckily i prefered a different set of headphones anyway.
