IRISH NAME SQUAD
Ireland's 28 man squad for the European Nations Cup has been named by coach Daryl Powell and his assistant Andy Kelly. Wigan prop Terry O'Connor has been named as captain. Three players from Ireland's domestic competition will be added later in the year.
The Irish face France and Scotland in the pool stage of the inaugural competitioon to be held during October and November.
Nine players who represented Ireland in the 2000 World Cup have been selected, as well as several young talents, including promising Bradford stand-off Chris Bridge.
Hull loose forward Shayne McMenemy may be forced to withdraw after dislocating an elbow during Sunday's defeat at Widnes, his first game since moving from Halifax.
Leeds Rhinos centre Chris McKenna and Hull prop Craig Greenhill are also included, both qualify through Irish heritage.
One major ommision is Wigan's Brian Carney, as the Great Britain squad will face Australia in The Ashes Series at the same time as the European Nations Cup is being played.
