Is Billy Slater the best player of all time?

There has always been a lot of discussion about who is the greatest league player of all time. It can be difficult to compare players of different eras. The game has changed a lot over the years and what made a player great 50 years ago may make him just an average player today.

Most league historians/experts say that Clive Churchill was the greatest fullback ever. Many of those suggest he was the greatest player of all time.

I have been following the game for 45 years and in that time I have seen some great fullbacks play, including Graeme Langlands. What I have seen Slater do on the football field makes me believe he is the best fullback I have seen.

Some of todays leading historians/experts on the game are saying the same, that Slater is the best fullback they have seen play. Its been about 50 to 55 years the Little Master played. So I doubt there are many people still living who saw him play. So it would be difficult to compare Slater to Churchill.

But if these league experts start suggesting that Slater was better then Churchill, then by default does that make Billy Slater the best player of all time.

I don't think the best player of all time would be single handedly responsible for losing a world cup...

... but thats just me

Great player, but no, not the best player of all time, not the best player of the last decade, not even the best player currently.

Also have to consider the talent he has around him. There's a noticeable difference when Cam Smith is missing, same with Cooper Cronk, but I don't see a massive difference when Slater isn't there.

Like I said, great player, but nowhere near the greatest of all time.

Not even the best fullback.

He's never played in a team without his funboy mates.... He benefits by playing in a cheating club side. Never seen him single handedly pull his team out of a big defecit.

He's the best fullback in the game by far. His timing is inch perfect and he does all the little things right.

Plays at a far higher level than most consistently too.

He is the best fullback (in the traditional sense of fullback, before they became pseudo half backs) I have seen and by far the most exciting player in the NRL in the last decade.
