People get way too concerned about foreigners/Victorians who dont know any better saying Rugby vs "Rugby League".

Who gives a f**k - the fact that they dont know any better means that if they ever decide to have a look at where blokes like Hayne come from, they'll see the NRL. And they'll see the best Rugby competition in the world.

We are playing Rugby. Ditch the inferiority complex and own the f**king name, most people here think we've got the superior form of the game anyway! Act like it ya sooks

They don't know about union/league because outside of a few insular wankers in either code it just does not matter.

Whining about union vs league is like arguing about whether Blackett is a better suburb than Dharruk. No-one outside of those two suburbs can see the difference or gives a f**k. And I'm not picking on Mt Druitt - same principle applies for Erskineville vs Alexandria or Mona Vale vs Avalon.

The point is, here in the Southern states people watch 5 minutes of the Wallabies, think it's NRL, realise that it's shit and move on. Trying to explain the difference in the 2 codes is futile.

You mean people who watch aussie rules and think it is sport? Worrying about what they think is futile.

I didn't say I was worried. Just that it's a waste of time. This whole "Trojan horse" concept is f**kin' stupid.

fair call.. the roosters are paying 13 blokes the equivalent of a 15 man salary..

:sarcasm:

You'll never catch us though because our note taking is poor!

If Hayne makes any inroads at all then some eyes in the US will turn towards the NRL.

It's not hard to understand.

Or maybe we should call the game Rugby League? Not footy, not rugby, not NRL, rugby league. Radical I know!

Yeah, the 'rugby' bit is what confuses people. Not the 'league' bit, which is used in the name of almost every competition in every sport in every country.

Desmond Haynes tried to spread cricket into the US and they just called that 'rugby' as well.

If Hayne succeeds and anything comes of it, it won't be League benefitting.

It will just make NRL a talent pool for NFL, and we'll start losing more of our best players.

I've been living in Canada since 2007, and woke up a few days ago to see Hayne's face on the front of the sports section of my local paper. Since then, I've seen highlight clips on the news and actually had people walk up to me to ask what this 'rugby league' thing was. The NRL has -never- had this kind of publicity here before.

What was your answer?

I see it as a negative for the NRL game.

1) the headlines , the BEST NRL player gives up his game to try and make a name in the American NFL. He states , to play in the NFL has always been a dream. 10 points for NFL , zero for NRL.Even the best player in NRL would rather be minor player in the NFL.

2) Success
a) he makes a NFL team run on team , specialist role , does his job. Not the star. The fact he makes the run on team , in itself could inspire a Disney movie.

b) he makes a NFL team , run on team , running back role / kick return and leads the NFL on all his stats . Definite movie focus on NFL.

The NFL increases focus on NRL has a legitimate talent pool for their game. NRL loses more young players to NFL scholarships . Focus on our Australian schoolboy pool and U20's competitions .

c) The only plus of a Hayne success. The NRL does away with salary cap altogether. Why , NRL clubs cannot compete with NFL anyway. The NFL draws away our best talent and the balance of players can be managed by a free market .
