Following the official announcement of the Trans Tasman Test to be played Saturday 13 October at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand - I was wondering when the Kangaroos Facebook & Twitter pages would begin sharing information of the forthcoming Test with Australian supporters.
Neither the offical verified Facebook or Twitter pages for the Kangaroos have posted any content since 15 May 2018, which was for Cameron Smith announcing his representative retirement. The Twitter page did a single recent retweet of JT's final NRL game.
As the current World Champions of Rugby League, you would have thought the social media pages would be building interest and excitement towards the first match to be played by our national team since last year's successful victory over England in the Final.
So, you wonder why they Kangaroos can't:
a) Get a major sponsor,
b) Sell out any match they play in their own country,
c) play on average one Test per year
If Mal Meninga wants to recreate prestige in the 'brand' - then why not take it seriously? Social media isn't something you just laugh off.
Bonus round: Is there even an offical page for the Kangaroos? I know they've been absorbed in the NRL.com website - but I can't see anything. The only way of contacting the Kangaroos by the way, is a generic email to 'recpetion@nrl.com.au'. Compare this to the New Zealand Kiwis, where you can direct message them over Facebook. Crazy stuff.
