Is it league or union?

There's something that's been bothering me more and more the past few years and it seems to be occuring more frequently each year. It's when the ball carrier is tackled and his team mates go in to assist. I first remember it occuring when the ball carrier was going to be tackled in their own in-goal after picking up a grubber etc and his team mates would help push him into the field of play. Nowadays you see it everywhere, particularly when attempting to score. I can't remember which game it was on the weekend, but a defensive player was actually pushed off the tackle by a attacking player not in possession of the ball, and the try was allowed.

Now, I don't know the legalities of such a move. I don't know if it's even defined at all in the rule books, but to me it's not in the spirit of the game. For f**k's sake, it's becoming more and more like a maul and I don't want my game to resemble union any more than it has to.

Maybe I'm just old, but I don't like it (in my best Pauline Hanson voice).

Not a fan of it either.
IIRC there was a rule change after 03(I think the Roosters went to Finch Snr after one of there games with the Raiders that year) where teammates could only help if they were preventing the player from being pushed back but they were not allowed to help him forward.
Seems it was forgotten about pretty quickly.

the rule book actually states that when that happens the referee is supposed to call held straight away. of course that never actually happens.

That was the Warriors against us. Can't believe the ref missed it to be honest.
