Is it time for a new stadium in Sydney?

Just for RL. Maybe one stadium for all to use. 40-50,000 seater. Undercover.

With all the rain, surely it's time to have one built. At the very least, Souths, Dogs, Eels, Tigers and maybe even Dragons could share it at different times.

I know you guys like your suburban grounds, but the rain is costing crowds. And the clubs ,money.

Sorry for trying to help Sydney's sorry arse crowds.

Better yet, lets build an 80,000 seater undercover for the Swans...

They need to reconfigure the roof at the SFS so that it actually functions as a roof and not an architects penis extension.

An SFS with every seat under the roof, now that's what I want to see!

ANZ with a retractable roof would be nice however it won't ever happen - the crappy state of NSW is in debt so far it isn't funny but hey we contributed to 'that' wedding.

SFS built in the late 80’s
Stade de Oz built in the late 90’s

Most of us will be close to retirement by the time Sydney gets a new stadium...

How about getting a tram line or something out to SFS/SCG and then putting a cover over the SFS? How much does the SFS cost - 100's of millions?

I'd like something like AAMI stadium built in Sydney, maybe slightly bigger capacity.

Yep - but even that venue has a lot that is not undercover. It shouldn't be that hard to have all the seats undercover.

But agree with NRLMad - something as basic as a better connection between Central and the SFS would be a good place to start.

The problem is its a big arse cantilever. Most stadiums work on between 60% - 80% coverage.

It would have to be at Homebush to get 4 or 5 clubs interested. maybe the athletics track could be a good site.

Build a new undercover 20,000 stand on the hill side of Kogarah oval right up alongside the eastern edge of the pitch - paid for by others of course. Make sure the accoustics are designed to get the full benifit of the dragon army singing

Then the saints can charge other clubs a premium rental price for its use (and a bond in case of souths, to make sure they don't steal the seats)

When Parra stadium got such a paltry crowd for last year's 4N game the big excuse was the rain. Yet there were thousands of empty undercover seats. I doubt having more undercover seats would boost the crowds that much. You still get wet on the way in and out anyway.

Kogarah should have been redeveloped into a rectangle shape why keep the oval? Would have been better with the crowd closer.

You're starting to sound like me. So of course I agree. ;-)

If there were a mutual ticketing arrangement for those five big clubs so that they could have around at least 25-30 games at such a venue (in particular games against each other), crowds would increase and it would have a flow on effect at the other suburban ground as overall memberships would increase.

This is a good point. Theoretically I can travel from my garage to the game and back without ever getting wet, including trips on public transport.

This obviously doesn't matter to many people here but to the casual fans it's a big deal to get drenched and the casual fans are the people who change, just for example, Parra's crowd from 15K to 80K...
