Is the All Stars game now officially a joke??

With all the injuries forcing many stars out of the game.

Can we take it seriously?

Now please note that this is not a shot at the player, but how can Sam Burgess be an NRL All Star without playing a single second of NRL football.

Plus could it be the same old same old of clubs advising players to be a little bit more injured than they really are, like Matt Cooper not playing for Country every year and then miraculously lining up for the dragons on the weekend.

Has this game run its course after only one year?

was always on the cards! If some players won't get out of bed to tour as a Kangaroo it isn't surprising they suddenly discover their hammy for this exhibition match.

you actually took this game seriously to begin with?

it has always been a glorified trial game

Its another PR stunt to make non-indigenous people feel good about themselves.

The fear of injuries and lack of incentives should spell the end of this concept within a year or 2.

Ummmm, maybe because he received the next highest number of votes from Souths. You were aware of how the selection system worked ?

If you did, give yourself an uppercut.

Thanks Johnsy for your positive response,

Regardless of the selection criteria my question re Burgess remains relevant to the whole stupidity of the concept.

Wouldn't you agree?

If injuries are a concern we can chop 4 rounds off the competition rather than take away this game. This is a game specifically made for the fans. This 1 game or 32 regular season games which will result in more injuries?

How are injuries for this game any different then Club / Origin / International games? Injuries are just part of the game. Doesn't make the game a joke. The biggest issue for the game is probably the way the teams are selected, but even then it's no worse then the way the Origin teams are selected. NSW selections are more of a joke then this game has been so far.

Burgess didn't actually receive any votes. He was ineligible at the time of voting.

Burgess is a test player, and a very good one at that. He deserves his spot.

The game is a waste of time though, considering we could be watching more test matches.

Of what value is this game? Its only purpose is to make non-indigenous people feel warm and fuzzy inside. Is it valuable enough to risk injuries for a chance to win a premiership?

Club games, origin games have purpose. Players are vying for national selection.

the value is that the fans pick the teams and another chance to see the games best playing. What about guys like Nathan Merritt saying it will be the highlight of his career?

TBH the game has been long overdue a match like this. You don't think that form from this game from some fringe players won't put them into calculations for rep teams if they perform well and back it up early in the season?

Here's an idea.. why dont you watch the game then make an opinion about it.

Exactly.

As if fans arent anxious enough for the season to the start, we've got this game to see some of the players in, not only the NRL, but the world.

I'll be there. Cant wait for it. :D

Slater injured at All Stars training
February 8, 2010 - 12:54PM

AAP
The NRL All Stars could be looking for a new fullback after Melbourne Storm's Billy Slater went down at training with a right ankle problem on Monday.
Officials say they will know more in the next 24 hours, with medical staff monitoring Slater's condition.
At this stage it's unknown whether he will recover in time for Saturday night's clash with the Indigenous All Stars on the Gold Coast.
Slater fell down at a ball work drill at Coogee Oval on Monday morning and had to be assisted off the field.

Oh well, it shouldnt be too hard to look for a fullback, considering the best fullback last year is on the bench.
