Is there a SGI version of the old Soviet Politburo?

Some years ago, a good friend of mine decided to run a ticket against the incumbents on the St George Leagues Club board. Fed up with Secretary Manager Danny Robinson and his aversion to supporting the Football Club and the gradual turning of the Leagues Club from a premier entertainment venue ( which it had been back in the 60s) into a giant casino, he assembled a team who had the aim of, among other things, restoring the damaged Auditorium roof so that the Club could once again showcase top national and international acts.

I helped with handing out how to vote flyers at the club for my friend but to both our amazement, some of the most high profile SGI first graders turned up handing out how to vote material for the incumbent board. Were they coerced into this? We'll never know. Needless to say, the incumbent Board was fully reelected.

This morning I read the Daily Telegraph interview with Paul Vaughan and was amazed at his fulsome praise of Mary. According to Vaughan, Mary is not just a good coach, he is a GREAT coach.

Coming after James Graham saying similar things about Mary, I am getting suspicious. Is the SGI Board trying to justify its unbelievably bad error of judgement in extending Mary's contract by coopting players into a public relations exercise? Is the club also trying to "sell" Mary to the punters to stop membership levels for 2020 falling thru the floor. ?. Are the players who are not so keen on McGregor and refuse to do the public show of support being shopped around or shown the door (such as Leilua)?

Nothing would surprise me anymore redandwhite4ver , I must say that I also thought that his praise of McGregor was over the top - and that is an understatement.

Praising Mary on NRL360 he didn’t look comfortable at all. Looked like he was saying what he was told to say. Didn’t convince me at all.
It’s all about what you don’t see off camera..

A representative of the Illawarra mafia was standing behind the camera man holding Graham’s pet kitten.

Fear not... Because he said the right thing, after filming it was returned unharmed.

You have answered your own question. It is part of the players public and media KPI's. Support the club at all levels especially via the media and through the higher profile players.
And you dont think journos twist or sensationalise what comes out of their mouth in an attempt to stretch the truth? Every NRL club does it. Nothing to see here. Next!

From the time St George agreed to rescue Illawarra, saving them from bankruptcy, It has always been my belief that the NRL want SGI to be based completely in Wollongong with the effect of distributing our juniors between Cronulla, Souths and Canterbury. While ever we fail to stand up and fight to keep our St George district ties, we will travel down the same path as the Illawarra club has done; the path of extinction.

I say bring in a top class professional CEO and give him the mandate to fight the good fight.

All understood, except the Soviet Politburo comparison is too narrow. Lenin was initially a Marxist and his ultimate aim was to provide education and organisation for the people. This ideal doesn't work well when a dictatorship takes over.

It is still possible to topple the St George Leagues Club board (through membership), but for that to happen we need the type of education and organisation that would make Marx proud.

It can be argued that at the heart of their original charter and membership ideals, Leagues Clubs are socialist organsations.

This thread is no more than the Sack McGregor thread and should be filed under that thread. You have done such a good job disguising this that McGregor and his Mafia Mates suspected nothing and couldn't alert the administrators to delete being anti - social to the Dragon Community

It will be very interesting to watch the CEO appointment process this time around. Will they repeat the 'World Wide Search' charade while Craig Young waits in the wings or will a genuine recruitment process be undertaken this time. If they go down the Albert road any credibility this board has will evaporate.

I don't think anyone could tell James Graham what to say! Well, maybe his wife.......

Graham has a young family and is approaching the dilemma of what to do in life after football- the Illawarra has a notoriously bad economy (high unemployment etc)- maybe he was toeing the club line to leave open the possibility of a development role with the club in 2021?
