Is There Anything Good About Melbourne?

You realise those sanctuary zones are where the fish can breed and grow without fishos taking them so you can have more to catch elsewhere right?

Yes because fish know to stay within invisible lines on a map that were created so Labor could appease their greens masters & meet a predetermined limit of 30% no take zones.

I wondered who swallowed that bait.

I've done plenty of diving in marine sanctiaries and there are way more fish in them. Of course the fish don't stay there all the time but it at least means that for the time they're in there they're not subject to being caught. Ffs it's not like fishos exactly have a shortage of non protected areas to fish in.

Meanwhile...back to Melbourne...

We have been here 27 days and so far, it has rained 23 of those days.

I don't mind the cold nor the rain, but f**k!!! Nothing ever dries out. The driveways and lawns have been in a constant state of dampness/wetness since we got here.

Does it ever let up? According to BOM, we can expect rain in varying degrees over the next seven days (maybe a brief respite over the weekend).

Did I experience a hook turn last Saturday? Drove us to the Queen Victoria Markets and couldn't access the carpark. Had to do a circuit of the block (without the Melbournite missus in the car) and tried turning right. WTF!!

I was lost. Spotted a sign that said RIGHT TURN FROM LEFT LANE ONLY. Again WTF!!

With the through traffic stopped in the right lanes, I had no choice but to run what I would consider a red light, expecting the other traffic to slam into me. I did that twice and somehow got back to the markets.

Whoever invented these road rules needs a complete psychometric analysis. What a f**king joke!!

They are nuts, but you just wait until the next phase goes green. The idea is that you are at the front of the next line of traffic on the side street. There should be no need for risky moves.

Just remove the cyclists and pedestrians from under the vehicle before you get home.

Re the weather, that's fairly unusual. I didn't find Melbourne that wet when I lived there. Cold and grey in winter sure, but not especially rainy. Summer can get brutally hot, much hotter than most places on the east coast.

I'll never forget when I went there back in 2013 for a weekend - derby day Saturday was pretty hot - I mean nice and warm usually, but when you're in suits etc... it was hot. Then the following day on Sunday, it was absolutely dreadful. It was windy, freezing, & drizzling - that annoying type of sprinkling rain where an umbrella isn't needed but it's still enough to annoy you. My coat couldn't withstand the coldness so much so, that I had to step into a small Thai joint and order laksa soup in order to warm up.

From that moment on, I decided I'll only be going to Melbourne for work purposes.

So there may be an opportunity coming up which would require me to relocate yet again. What are suburbs in Melbourne that have that Newtown Glebe feel. Lots of bands in pubs in perfect. Can't be too hard to get over to docklands

I'd recommend north Melbourne as an option as well. Coburg too. Both have the train heading right to southern cross stn.

Each to their own I guess, but the Gold Coast is a bit of cesspool IMO.

Northern NSW is nice for a holiday, spent 10 days there prior to Christmas, but too quiet/country town for me to live.

The Northern Rivers area is great, although pockets of it, mainly around Byron Bay, are becoming a congested cesspit. The area really needs its train line back, more and more people are moving there and the shitty, single lane country roads can't handle it.

They allow you to leave it without having to sell your first born or leave behind a severed limb.

Yeah, the road into Byron is a joke and an absolute car park at times.

Been many, many times. I enjoy it, but couldn't live there.

There are numerous places I'd live before I'd even consider Melbourne. GC & Nthn NSW to start.

I love the Gold Coast and northern NSW. Best places in the country. If the work I do was there I would live there.

It's been six months since I moved from Bundaberg to Melbourne.

The prices of certain items differ widely between the two places. Here's some notable examples.

Petrol - Bundaberg - usually stable at between 135 - 145 cents per litre.
Melbourne - anywhere between 110 - 135 cents per litre.
LPG - Bundaberg - around $1 per litre
Melbourne - around 50 -55 cents per litre.

Meat - Bundaberg - for example, rump steak. About $10 - 15 per kilo. Can buy whole rumps on special for as low as $6 per kilo.
Melbourne - I've never seen rump below $16 per kilo.

Poultry - Bundaberg - chicken drumsticks - usually $3 - 4 per kilo. Breast fillets - anywhere from $8 - 11 per kilo. Can be cheaper on special.
Melbourne - drumsticks - butchers have them on "special" for $6.99 per kilo. Get f**ked! Breast fillets - slightly dearer than Bundy but I've seen them at Victoria Markets at a poultry specialist for $35 per kilo!! Get f**ked again!! What are they? Gold plated?

Places like Tasman Meats and Direct Meats sometimes have specials on the above items but those are usually on par with Bundy's regular price.

Fruit and veg - Bundy is usually the same or slightly cheaper than Melbourne except for local produce such as watermelons, sweet potatoes, avocados, pumpkins, etc. These can be less than half of Melbourne's prices.
