The insult about him wearing dentures was aimed at him being a South Sydney fan. He and his mate were associating Cowboys fans and North Queenslanders in general with beastiality, so I ribbed him about the poor dental hygiene that has been observed by quite a few South Sydney fans. My main point was that you making a fairly lighthearted jab and Jim resorts to genuinely trying to insult people.

If the competiton could support 20 or more teams then it might be plausible to keep the nine clubs from Sydney, but all the evidence says it cannot. There's not enough talent to fill 16 teams. We haven't seen blow out scores like this since 1995-1996, which was when we had 20 teams. Broadcasters aren't going to fund an extra four teams. Ratings are declining, so if anything we run the risk of losing bargaining power the next time the rights are up for grabs.

I think the comp can support 2 more sides at this point. We have had the same amount of teams for over a decade and blowouts weren't a problem until this year. People will complain about lack of talent no matter how many teams there are because there are always going to be shit teams.
Ratings are declining because of blowouts due to shit 6-again rules, I am of the belief that teams will change their recruitment and coaching methods and there will be far less blowout scores next year, we'll see though.

The Panthers don't need to be in the NRL in order for the region they represent to have many amateur clubs and registered players competing against one another. It would be like saying all 10 BRL clubs from 1988 need to be in the NRL because they each had their own catchment. Killing the BRL did not lead to a mass extinction of junior and senior clubs around the Greater Brisbane area. All this alarmist bullshit from @MugaB, @Jim Rockford and @Stallion about the game dying if 2 or 3 of Sydney's smaller clubs are relegated to the NSW Cup is just an appeal to emotion that has no historical precedence to back it up.

I state my opinions on what I think is best for RL. They're just my opinions. You're welcome to tear them apart if you believe they're wrong. I've changed my stance since listening to other people's well laid out arguments. The point of this forum is to discuss ideas.

I agree with some of your opinions about the NRL, for what it's worth. I just see the Sydney situation differently as I don't have an emotional attachment to it. I am emotionally attached to Brisbane and biased in that regard, but I have toned down my bias in recent months and realised that the world doesn’t begin and end in Brisbane. Dare I say it, maybe a send NRL club is all Brisbane needs if it's done right, but I still think there is potential for a third team somewhere down the track.

I am starting to think Adelaide and Perth might need a team even more than Brisbane 2, as Brisbane based RL fans who do not support the Broncos have a strong Queensland Cup competition to fill the void, whereas RL fans in Adelaide and Perth have nothing.

I just hope the Firehawks are given the licence, as they will give Brisbane a north vs south and east vs west rivalry and are based just a few KMs from the CBD.

Jets is south but also west# so it shares that with the Broncos and isn't based in City of Brisbane.
