Giovianni Trapattoni has named an 21 man squad with 4 Inter players in it. Toldo, Cannavaro, C.Zanetti, Vieri. Meanwhile 3 Roma players made it as well.

The full squad is:

Italy squad:Buffon (Juventus), Toldo (Inter), Cannavaro (Inter), Ferrari (Parma), Legrottaglie (Juventus), Nesta (AC Milan ), Oddo (Lazio), Panucci (Roma) , Camoranesi (Juventus), Fiore (Lazio), Gattuso (AC Milan ), Perrotta (Chievo), Zambrotta (Juventus), C.Zanetti (Inter) , Corradi (Lazio), Delvecchio (Roma ) , Di Vaio (Juventus), Inzaghi (AC Milan ), Miccoli (Juventus), Totti (Roma) , Vieri (Inter)

Same as always.

Panucci hasnt played a full game all season, yet he is still picked.

Italy have little creative midfielders besides Totti and Del Piero and the latter is missing due to injury. Perotta, Gattuso and Zanetti are all defensive ballwinners and cannot supply the strikers.

Once again, Antonio Cassano is overlooked even though he has shut his mouth, calmed down and played some spectacular football recently. He hasnt scored a goal but his assists and running play have been brilliant. Instead, Trap picks Miccoli who has played half a game this season. Joke.

This would be my ideal squad if everyone was fit:

Buffon;

Panucci, Cannavaro, Nesta, Zambrotta;

Gattuso, Pirlo;

Cassano, Totti, Del Piero;

Vieri;

--------------------------------
Toldo
Oddo
Legrottaglie
Perotta
Gattuso
Camoranesi
Fiore
Miccoli
Inzaghi
Delvecchio
Montella

Well this match is against Azerbijian. Hardly boot shaking oppents.

hybrid, who to you see after Toldo as next in line for the Italian goal keeping job. That is I mean, the 3rd best 'keeper. Cudicini or the Italian u-21 goalie (I cant remember his name ATM)?

Amelia is the U21 Keeper.

I Would probably go for Cudicini.

Seriously, Italy would never have problems scoring if they had the following attack on the field at the same time:

Cassano, Totti, Del Piero;

Vieri

That would be unstopable.

That might be so but that doesn't leave much room for defensive midfielders. The forward line might also become too congested. All the players u named are attack minded but for them to be successful they need space to roam.

Italy play a 4-2-3-1 formation. The above piece of that formation is the 3-1. The 2 players behind this attacking triangle are BOTH defensive midfielders. There shouldnt be a problem with this formation IMO. The only player i have added who is not already in the squad is Cassano. The rest alrady play in these positions.

So i'm assuming gatusso and pirlo would be the defensive midfielders in your side?

Gattuso, Pirlo, C.Zanetti, Perotta, Tacchinardi.

We have a fair few options in this position. Dont ask me why, but Pirlo doesnt get chosen for the National Team, but he would be a perfect option IMO.
