Yeah sad news, but I find it a bit ridiculous that they have 3 players in Barba, Holmes & Bird who would be competing for the fullback position.. thats probably 1.5mill in players.. and they just imported new halves too.. it doesnt stack up for me.. had the same issue when they decided they wanted forwards and bought in a stack of internationals a few years back.. many of which they still have.

not sure about Bird being a fullback, will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Bird btw was outstanding at fullback in the very limited times he played for U20's, but he just hasnt really got a lot of experience there for 1st grade level (but same situation with 5/8..).. my only other concern would be seeing him run left side of the field, bexacuse he almost exclusively runs right, but perhaps this season at 5/8 has expanded his perspective.

Fullback? So what's their plans for Valentime Holmes? He's easily the best fullback prospect in the club. Between Barba, Bird, Holmes, Maloney, Robson and Townshend something will have to give.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me either? Perhaps Barba will be offloaded once again.

Still scratching my head as to why they would import both Maloney and Townsend when Bird had such an outstanding rookie season (unless they are hedging their bets with regards to his health?)

A halves combination of Bird and Maloney would make the most sense but don't be surprised if he ends up in the centres.

It doesn't seem like they have a recruitment strategy, and haven't had one for a while. Just try and sign whoever becomes available.

I think the sharks just recognise that bird is a talented and versatile footballer that they will find a spot for regardless. Maybe of our club took that approach bird would still be with us

Id be looking at Barba.....He would have to come cheap and would be good off the bench..if he is available...Strike player that we need......?

Pass. There's a reason no club fights to retain or sign him. Or even start him for that matter.

Bird won't hold down the fullback position at the Sharks. Sounds like he wants to play in the spine which is understandable as guys in those positions make more money. But if he gets pushed out of the halves by Maloney he needs to go into the centres.

Good luck to the kid I guess, I think he's a solid player but IMO goes missing in the big games. I think he's a centre to be honest.

Of course he will stay with the Sharks, they gave him his chance and they will give him the coin so they do not lose him.
