Blake return to Saints ? Return to a club that suspended him and ripped up his contract, I don't think so. Pity.

Wasn't he the hero that bashed his missus? Sorry but Rugby League is a man's game. No pity at all.

as opposed to another hero (Packer) stomping on another man in the head whilst he was already on the ground and unconscious....
but yet we are now all praising Packer as our forward saviour for 2016.

i dont condone either acts however the club has shown a blatant contradiction and bi-polar behavior in morals here ....
one man is worth rehabilitating and another thrown on the srap heap?

yeah

but he wont be released not yet anyway.

He, IMO should get a crack at fullback where he was good and if he doesn't play well then its the Val Era.
that said wouldn't surprise me if Valentine moves into the halves with Maloney.

anyway, bird is a shark, you guys got T Frizz. etc. it all swings around and around

That isn't true. Barba is still being paid a hefty sum by Brisbane and a hefty sum by the Shonkies, making him one of the highest paid players period. According to numerous sources several Shonkies players were upset about Barba being paid so much more than them despite offering far less on the field.

Shonkies are still a basket case. A wooden spoon is far closer than a premiership.

As for Bird, on what I have seen so far you are welcome to him. Not a good ball player, not big enough to be a forward and not fast enough to be an outside back. He will make an excellent interchange utility but the Shonkies already have the highest paid player in the club by some margin warming the bench.

I'll take a man who flogs a man over a gutless coward who flogs a woman any day of the week.

Are you honestly saying these 2 blokes crimes are on par? Tread very carefully here.

not on par
but both gutless cowardly acts to use your description... and both which should have seen a unified response and message from the board (irrespective on which way they jumped).
IMO opinion it simply doesnt make sense that one gets "rehabilitated" with a contract and one gets sacked.
they either give both a second chance or dont employ either at least maintain some sort of unified stance, not bi-polar behaviour.

are you Paul Mcgregor by any chance?

I did make a mistake using the word 'pity' regarding Blake. I meant a player with so much talent was lost to the club but he HAD to be lost. In my view neither Blake nor Packer should play for our club. I never want us to become a Roosters. Dugan for being a dickhead yes give a chance, Blake hitting a woman = No....Packer for what he did to that guy = no. Imagine if that guy had been your dad, brother, friend....would you be happy for the club to play him ? I know many think differently and would argue he has done his time....fine and he will bring 'mongrel' to our pack. I still hope he doesn't play for us. It may seem very unfair but I want him to get another chance in life, but I don't want him wearing the Red V.

Let's sign 25 choir boys. fmd

I bet there's plenty more players in the NRL that have a shady past. People can be rehabilitated. That is a simple fact. Plus none of us know the full story behind Packer's and AFB's situations. For a start if Packer supposedly 'repeatedly stomped on the victim's head' then the 'victim' wouldn't be alive.
As for AFB, well we just don't know do we. Did he strike her with his fist. Open palm. Just a shove?
If these two were part of a premiership winning Dragons team, yeah I think I could cope with that.

Who here really knows what AFB did. I have never seen a report about the details of the crime anywhere! He was convicted for what ever he did, whatever that was, and rightly so. I will never stick up for someone who does the crime, because I believe that they should do the time. BUT as far as I know he is not a serial offender. I believe, because I know no different, that this was a one off. Once he serves his sentence he will return to the NRL, and so he should, he has paid his dues.
But more importantly, if the NRL bans him for life so be it. But if he is free to return to the game, like so many, then why should we pay the price of not having his services when our club has done nothing wrong. If he returns to the NRL he should return to us. So ends the sermon this Thursday night.

Wittenberg you can have that opinion that's your right but Packer will get his chance and hopefully AFB does to.

If you feel that strongly email the club or send a letter and have your say and see what they have to say back.

What both guys done is very wrong and they have both been punished by the law of the country regardless if you agree or not.

You've taken enough of our players. Now piss off.

On second thoughts, I just remembered who you took. Thank you, thank you, thank you. But you CAN send Jack Bird back!

You can try and generalise their actions as much as you like to try and justify your point, but the fact remains that one man preyed on another man - his equal. The other guy (I refuse to acknowledge him as a man) preyed on a woman. Anyone who preys on a woman or child is beyond redemption as far as I'm concerned and I don't want them in the Red V. Simple as that.

And to say that one was "rehabilitated" with a contract is written proof of how far you're willing to simplify this argument to prove a point. No-one has ever claimed he was "rehabilitated" with a contract. Firstly - he served jail time, his debt to society has been paid. Secondly, he's been sober since he committed the crime. Thirdly, he's undertaken counselling and is on the record showing genuine insight into his offending and the triggers behind it. His contract is his reward for his genuine effort to turn his life around, not his "rehabilitation".

FTR I am not defending what Packer did (I originally stated my opposition to his signing on this very forum) but since that time he has changed my mind and I believe he is worthy of a second chance.
