FLAMBOYANT Aussie Rules football identity Sam Kekovich today lost his licence for 12 months after being nabbed for drink driving in Melbourne last year.
"Slamming" Sam Kekovich, a Kangaroos legend turned media personality, was caught by a booze bus in Burnley on May 3 last year with a blood alcohol level of 0.062.
Kekovich, 53, of suburban Abbotsford, told police he had previously drunk five beers and two glasses of wine.
In the Sunshine Magistrates Court today, Magistrate Donna Bakos disqualified Kekovich from driving in Victoria for 12 months, effective from October 5, and fined him $300.
Kekovich, who was an explosive forward with the renowned North Melbourne teams of the 1970s, was not present in court.
Speaking outside the court, Senior Sergeant Jeff Birrell, said Kekovich had lost his licence for 12 rather than six months, because he had a prior drink driving conviction.
On October 1 this year, Kekovich beat another driving charge.
Although fined $135 after pleading guilty to using a phone while driving, he was cleared of refusing to accompany police for a breath test, with unspecified costs awarded against police.
Kekovich is the former president of the made-for-TV football team the Hammerheads and is a regular on ABC TV's The Fat.
