Jamie Lyon will return to the Eels next year due to the signing of Mark Riddell from St Geo Illawarra.
Lyon is quoted in the media saying "I've always loved the game that 'Pig' plays. It'd be awesome to play beside him and hopefully i'll get the opportunity to do so next season"
"I've been pig shooting with Pig (Riddell) in the past and he's a gun shooter, almost a natural, i reckon he'll definately be an asset to the Eels in the years to come, and i hope i can perform well and the fans arn't too dirty on me for leaving this year"..."i've always loved Parra and would never think of playing for another NRL team".

There is one thing we can thank Jamie Lyon for.....

...if he hadn't have walked out on us...99% of eels fans would still have absolutely no idea that there is such a place as Wee Waa..

....Thanks Jamie for the geography lesson...now onto footy.... would you like me to teach you something...it called LOYALTY and TEAMPLAY...

...next weeks lesson is on legal studies...and the outcomes of breaking BINDING CONTRACTS...

I heard Jamie Lyon was suggested to come to Manly, but why would he leave Parramatta cause he wasnt enjoying his footy and then come to Manly, where its the last club to enjoy you're footy. Especially after 52-12 loss.

If he was coming back to the NRL, it'll Parramatta. Just hope he makes up his mind before next year.

I wouldn't turn blue waiting if I were u... I think the contract reworking/conditional release and our activity on the player market is recognition that Jamie's return in 2005 is unlikely.

Would that mean that Parra would be willing to release him all together to get the extra money for other players?

I'm not sure how it all works technically, but Lyon was only paid a portion of the contract money for this year (off season training and one game). I understand Jamie does not receive the rest of the money due under his contract unless he plays NRL again. Since the contract was already registered with the NRL cap for 2004, Parra couldn't respend the spare money.

When they renegotiated his release to Wee Waa, I understand he agreed to a clause where he could not play for any other NRL club before the end of his Parra contract. He may be being paid a small retainer to maintain validity of this contract, but I'd expect it would be an insignificant amount. That variation of the arrangement will form part of Parra's cap notified to the NRL at the start of the 2005 season, meaning if Jamie does not return to play we can spend his contract money on other players in seasons 2005/6.

I'm happy to stand corrected on this matter, but that is my basic understanding of how things work.

Okay, dont bite my head off, because i don't know the inner workings of his deal but

if what u say is true, and if jamie did really want a release, then couldn't he say he isn't coming back, then u guys fill the cap, and then jamie changes his mind, thus putting u over the cap and forcing ur hand into releasing him?????

I dont think too many other clubs would be interrested in Jamie, due to his behavior

no!! not at all! ;-)

if you want the amended contract verified contact our CEO!

I'm lead to believe it's win/win situation on our account and he only gets paid with every match he plays.

He has been given a release from that original contract - it would be unlikely that he could hold them to nonouring the contract when he didn't. If he were to come back to Parra I am sure they would do a deal with him to comeback - on match payments maybe or on a greatly reduced contract until the 2007 season.

Yep Fitzy played hard ball with Jamie/Manly and they'll have to wait until 2007 if they want to join forces. We now hold the power as far as that deal is concerned and it won't hurt our salary cap for next year and beyond.

I was thinking along similar lines. The strategy to lure Lyon back was to get a Pig at the club that he could enjoy chasing every week at training.

can we move on from all the will he or won't he return Jamie Lyon stuff?!!

I think the club and the fans would love to actually be able to just find a decent centre and replace him for good. In the meantime we keep getting reminded of this disappointing chapter in the club's history. It really is very upsetting - you base you entire marketing and playing strength around a few individuals, sign the bugger to a virtually lifelong deal and he walks out with no recourse and virtually no excuses or apologies. Frankly its a blo*dy hurtful situation and i reckon we just need to forget him and the whole episode.

I know its all just hypothesis and a bit of fun but i reckon we need to look forward to better days, not back to that dark hour.

I agree whole heartedly. I wouldn't even want him back if he decided he wanted to be back. He has treated the club and supporters like crap by leaving us all in the dark...I just think i'd rather try and win the comp without him than have him waltz back in whenever he feels like it. Release him half way through next year- theres no way with his ease of putting on weight that he'd be fit to return to the NRL straight away- it'd effectively mean he has to sit out two seasons. Teach the Pig rooter a lesson.

I wonder what the players think of this? I mean they certainly can't have too much respect for a man who dumps them when things were tough and then wants to come back when they're winning again.

The way this works is IF Lyon wants a release and is granted one, Parramatta would still pay half of the amount the other side is paying him but it will not count towards your salary cap. This is similar to Brett Firman who signed with the Roosters recently.

If he does not ask for a release, so long as he is contracted the salary he is on as I understand it still counts towards the cap (i'm not 100% sure of this but am pretty sure)

It doesn't have to be 50-50.

Solomona left the Eels for Wakefield with Wakefield picking up Solo's entire contract.

When Buettner left Parra he was on about 250,000-300,000 with Parra paying around 200,000 for Buettner to play with the Tigers.

Amos Roberts is getting 2/3 of his deal paid by the Dragons this year.

Rumour has it that Lyon is having a meeting regarding a full release with Fitzgerald tomorrow morning. Any substance to this rumour?

It wouldn't work that way because Lyon is the one requesting the release, the club wants to keep him the release would be on their terms not his. And the money DOES come under the cap.
