Take 2 (the abridged version):

As I said, before cyberspace swallowed my response; I popped over to the Parra forums this morning and recorded my disappointment.

I don't know too many 22 year old first-graders, who have played for Australia, that retire at that age without the hint of a career-long injury. He seems fit enough, even if he does get the occassional injury.

It seems he is just sick of being in the city, or else doesn't like playing football anymore. It all seems a bit strange, but one thing is for certain: he is a loss to the game.

What an eventful week: Ongoing Bulldogs issues, then they record a big win, then the Panthers lose, the Roosters look sloppy but still win, Manly win, Terry Hill retires, Craig Wing injured for an extended period, and Lyon retires.....what next? It's only Tuesday.

What's next???

the Bunnies beat the Tigers this weekend!!

bunnys always beat the tigers, tip of the week manly at brooky to upset roosters

it seems a rash decision given he was house hunting last week (according to Channel Ten).

his manager said in todays SMH that he was prone to making rash decisions. he is indeed at his parents place in Ballina.

I mean he has plenty of time to go piggin' after he finishes his career. There is something wrong here where a player is allowed to walk out of a clubn without any counselling or any negotiations with the club. The club has based their whole year around their big players - of which Lyon would be one of only 3, and now their year has gone from crap to really deep crap because this guy isn't man enough to see out his commitments.

Plenty of people move away from their home town when they are young. In the real world people just arent allowed to do this. People go through difficult times all the time. I dont see why footballers should be allowed to just take off, and even worse, people feel sorry for the guy.

Buck up Jamie - the last 6 years has been alright. Clear your head and get back to playing football.

Why should people to convince him to reconsider and go back if its not what he wants. If your hearts not it in, then your not gonna be able to put the effort in to perform well for your club, and your unhappy. Yeah, we are losing a first class player, but we should all let Jamie do what he wants to do, not what everyone else wants him to do, if he reconsiders, and its not what he really wants to do, then he will be unhappy, and resent the people who got him to reconsider. So just let him be and do what HE wants to do, I say!!!!

It's such a tragedy to lose a player of Jamie's talent. However a bigger tragedy would be for a young man to do something that his heart just isn't in. As many of you may remember, I have been one of Lyons staunchest supporters. I would defend him to the death and often attack people who didn't rate him as one of the best centres in the game. He appeared to play the game with ferocity and passion something which is hard to fathom considering retirement has been on his mind for over a year.

Jamie Lyon - You are an absolute champion. Best of luck for the future. Parra stadium just won't be the same without you.

Answer:
 Robbie Ross retires from rugby league after an ongoing back problem.

It's Wednesday - what do we see unfolding today? Cliffy Lyons to make another comeback?
Perhaps Phil Gould to retire from commentary.....if only!
