Now not that this is likely to ever happen any time soon (bit of a hypothetical) or anything but say Parra. did give Lyon a release from his contract, does anyone think the Sharks would/should go after him?

They DID give him a release from his contract....last week!

With the stipulation that he could play for Wee Waa and not any other NRL club.

I do know that the paperwork has been sent to him regarding the release but he has to meet with the club before its signed apparently.

Yeah Col., but does that release cover him for life ?

ie, can he never, ever, ever play for another club or is it just for the duration of what would have been his time at Parra ?

Just the duration of his time at the Eels - which was until the end of 2006. Come 2007 and having played a couple of years in the bush he might still be worth pursuing but there would be huge doubts.

Yeah it's a life time thing or 55 which ever comes first.
I can't imagine he'd be very useful when he's 55 though. But Souths might be interested.

Yeah, fair enough Col but, a few years in the bush and he may have lost it anyway.Working in a pub is a sure fire way to becoming a porker.

Good hypothetical. :)

Basically they have said to him that he can have his release to play for Wee Waa provided he signs the documents to say he cannot play for any other club. If he doesn't agree then the contract stands. As he isn't honouring the contract he signed I don't think they have to pay him anything at all - if the club had released him as opposed to him seeking a release it would be a different story.

Too true ...

Any ideas on what part of his contract is to be paid out (considering they 'own' him till 2006)...

I don't think i've ever heard of a situation like this before. :!:

I back what Colonel says. It's great for league in the bush to have him available for Wee Waa, but the Eels are totally within their rights to stop him playing for any other side, be it another bush team or an NRL team.

After all, it's a commercial thing for the Eels.

It will also take a chunk of Parras salary cap (250-300k?) for the next 2 years and Parra will have nothing to show for it. Unless of course, he signs the paperwork, which I doubt he will.

He's working at the local club for $17 an hour as a barman apparently.

He has investment properties in Sydney, according to his manager.

He'll be alright, esp. out in Wee Waa.

If he's released, surely the club gets that Salary Cap room back?

If he is releasede they will, if he doesn't agree to the release then we are stuck with his contract for two more years.

If he is released, yes, they get the money back. If he chooses not to sign the paperwork, then Parra have a smaller cap to play with as they will get nothing from Lyon for the next 2 years.
