The elephant in the room is why Manly loaned him out and then cut him.

The word at Silvertails is that mid last year he was offered a contract of $250k for 3 years but knocked it back, expecting more offers, most likely on the advice of his father. At some stage the offer to Albert was withdrawn - possibly after his decidedly underwhelming performances in the games he played in first grade. Manly then pursued Saab and Tuipulotu.

It appears that the only offer Albert had on the table is what is basically a "train and trial" contract with Canberra for under $100k.

Has got himself locked up again. State Crime were doing surveillance on a vehicle which allegedly had quite an amount of Peruvian marching powder in it. It’s alleged that Jamil turns up and takes the bag. Gets chased by the coppers on foot around Botany before being arrested. Has his bail application today. Info courtesy of Daily Mail Australia, who would have stolen the story from some other site that has a pay wall.

Ousted NRL star Jamil Hopoate had allegedly just checked on $155 million shipment of cocaine from which he was set to get a cut when he was arrested by police.

Hopoate, 26, was on Tuesday charged over his alleged role in the large commercial import of cocaine, but not before leading police on a wild foot pursuit through Sydney’s southeast.

The former Manly and Brisbane Broncos player will now face Central Local Court on Wednesday.

NSW Police allege Hopoate, the son of controversial fellow footballer John and brother of current star Will, was among three people allegedly involved in the 514kg cocaine import.

The shipment allegedly landed in Sydney from the United Kingdom on Saturday, at which point it was intercepted by Australian Border Force officials who had received a tip off about its contents.

After searching through a consignment of toolboxes they allegedly found the packets of white powder hidden inside. The total street value is estimated to be $154.2 million.

Police will allege Hopoate and a 33-year-old woman were seen at Port Botany accessing a truck linked to the haul about 10.30am on Tuesday morning.

When police, who had been watching the truck, approached the pair in their van, it is alleged the female driver sped off.

At the same time Hopoate is allegedly to have got out of the van and fled on foot, leading officers on a pursuit through the suburban streets of Botany.

Police allege Hopoate threw a backpack containing an amount of cocaine over a fence as they chased after him.

He was eventually apprehended by police but was injured during the arrest and taken to hospital for treatment.

After being released he was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of cocaine and using a vehicle to avoid apprehension.

The woman, from Collaroy, was also charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of cocaine and also with using an offensive weapon in company to prevent detention.

About 5pm on Tuesday detectives from Strike Force Coact arrested a 28-year-old man during a vehicle stop on Williamson Drive, Macquarie Fields.

Holy moly, from bashing his Mrs to this. Welcome to the big time Jamil, unfortunately it’s not league that has presented you to the big time. Pretty sure this carries life if the allegations are proven.

That's a real bonehead move. 26 years old, previous conviction, unsigned, didn't play particularly well this year, seems to be a bit physically lacking for the NRL (too small for a forward) - I don't think he will play in the NRL again.
Not after 20 years jail. Sorry i forgot only a certain gender can have all their prostrations ( that's a big word) BELIEVED.
However moving into attack mode, the 'family' sink up any club they are associated with.
On a positive note he ( Jamil) might make the 17th super sub of the greatest crime players ( Drugs only) NRL team, headed and Captained by Paul Hayward.

John Hopoate has a large van. He's involved with Beacon Hill Bears in our district (or at least used to be).

Many was the time he'd park his van in the No Standing ambulance bay, blocking vehicular entry to the field in case of a serious injury.

Sums him up.

At least if it was a disability zone he would have an excuse
