Gibbs facing ban for kneeing

Wests Tigers prop Bryce Gibbs is facing suspension after been charged with kneeing Eels winger Luke Burt.
Gibbs conceded an eight-point try for dropping his knees into the back of Burt during Friday night's 26-18 loss to Parramatta.
He can accept a two-match ban with an early guilty plea, or risk a three-match suspension by contesting the charge at the judiciary.
The match review committee has laid no charge against Parramatta's Jarryd Hayne after requesting extra vision of a post-match incident involving Tigers forward Gareth Ellis.

I'm a little surprised, but relieved that the hit on Morris didn't get charged. The other one, pathetic it was even brought up. As for Gibbs - buh bye.

Wow, 2 match suspension seems kind of harsh given some of the sh*t Slater has gotten away with over the years. Even Daniel Anderson agreed it was harsh.

Would've been good for Penrith to have him out but unfortunately even I couldn't justify it. We'll just have to hope he has a bit of an off game.

Possible, nothing good was ever going to come from leading with the knees after the try had been scored. If he was trying to pull out, surely jumping over Burt would have been the smart way to do it rather than dropping down to ensure that a collision was a formality.

Beau Scott two weeks for leading with his legs once a try had been scored earlier this season. So there is precedent there. In all fairness however I didnt see the try as I was at WIN stadium so i cant really say.

Hayne has no case to answer

August 24, 2009 - 1:25PM

Parramatta star player Jarryd Hayne has avoided a charge from the NRL match review committee despite a complaint from the Wests Tigers following an incident with forward Gareth Ellis.
The Tigers complained that Hayne used his forearm on their English import immediately after fulltime in Friday's night blockbuster at the Sydney Football Stadium and highlighted potentially another incident in the first half involving the star Parramatta fullback and John Morris. Hayne, however, was not a listed as having a case to answer when the NRL released the charge sheet for round 24 today.
Tigers prop Bryce Gibbs is facing a two to three weeks suspension after being charged with dangerous contact with his knee after the NRL's video review on Monday.
Gibbs was put on report after catching Parramatta's Luke Burt in the back as the winger scored a try during the Tigers' 26-18 defeat to the Eels.
The 24-year-old will miss his side's last two regular season games against Gold Coast and the Bulldogs if he takes the early guilty plea - in what would be a big blow to the injury-hit Tigers' finals hopes.
If he opts to fight the charge and loses, he will face a three-game suspension.
Newcastle's Adam MacDougall avoided sanction after being put on report for a high tackle on North Queensland's Travis Burns in the Knights' 32-26 win on Saturday.

I hope they meet again in the playoffs (come on Wests!). Retribution will be swift from Ellis!

Leading with the feet was only outlawed in the off season. So while you can argue Slater got away with for so long, the reality it is when Slater did it, it was not considered an illegal act.

To be perfectly honest i'm surprised too. He seemed like he was sliding in and Burt copped it. But if the judiciary are going to be consistent on things like these I'm happy.

Nothing in it, im pleased he's free to play

didnt think there was a great deal in the Gibbs knee either, thought the action taken on the field was sufficent punishment, if not already over the top.

Had i been refereeing, i'd have placed the incident on report and got on with things, not sure it was 8 point try worthy tbh
