The man deserved to finish on his own terms , as said by others - a one club player , but most unfortunately that is not to be . I did believe that the club would offer him another season however yet again our BOD have shown just how dysfunctional they are - what is up is down , the sun rises in the West and sets in the East , good lawd , when will it all end ?

However gentlemen - and ladies don’t go losing your panties just yet , as I am sure that the Dragons will be signing at the very least another half dozen or so top shelf players , whom could in fact have already agreed to terms with the Big Red V , we only need to wait - wait - wait ( how old was Rip Van Wrinkle ? ) until the announcements are made !
Unfortunately, I have played that game before (waiting). I think having roster spots still open and it being 5 days out from the EOF Year. 2 Business days to be exact. With no announcements of how we are filling these spots, doesn't instill confidence.

Most certainly does not Gardenia , we have all been expecting the mechanisms that drive all successful clubs to finally click into place here at St.George Illawarra , but alas still nothing.

I recall a interview that Brian Smith had after applying for the vacant coaching role at the Dragons . The man made the remark that “ The club has the same smell as did Newtown before it folded into obscurity “ and I am most afraid that is indeed the case here .

Brian smith said that when he left the Dragons in the 90’s

I was really hoping for some positive signing news before June 30… instead, we lose one of our most consistent forwards in Jack de Belin.

Meanwhile, we’re still hanging onto guys like Lawrie, Ravalawa, etc.—players who haven’t really delivered, and yet somehow remain locked into our squad.

Other clubs are out there making smart moves and building for the future. What exactly are we doing?

JDB might not be a gamebreaker, but he gave everything every week. Losing him, and still not bringing anyone decent in, just feels like we’re going backwards.

Starting to seriously wonder if I’m following the wrong team...
I think it is more of a case that no one wants Laurie or Rav so we may have to pay some of their salary to move them on. The club is certainly clearing the deck but that is only good if we have far better replacements. We all dont know so I don’t know why all the wrist slashing

Jack had his break out year in 2017, gained an Origin jersey on the back of that in 2018. After that it was a complete dogs breakfast with his court case (which in all fairness never should of happened), and him hiding under the bed like a coward during the BBQ-gate saga.

Yes, he has been one of our most consistent forwards when he has played. But that's also from a very low baseline and relative comparison vs other players in our squad (particularly during the last four seasons) as well.

As others have pointed out - he has a maximum one more year of effectiveness left in him.

Parramatta are trying to re-balance their cap with a solid player on minimal wage while they clean out deadwood currently on high money. They will also bring juniors through. This is the same strategy we need to be implementing as well.

As for us - Stewart will be starting in the 13 next year, and the Couchmans will be in the props rotation along with LPT. Egan, Tsougranis & Halangahu are the future on the edge with Su'a as the mainstay. We still need to find a solid first grade prop + edge forward for depth. Hopefully the money being freed up by JDB gives us the flexibility we need to make those recruits.
Well said BUT we need to see new exciting signings. Surely that’s the plan ?

What's is this about Sloan and the Storm, KK?
Just Yahoo news yesterday speculating that Sloan would be an ideal candidate for the storm who like to sign speedsters then turn them into wingers DD.
I'd include the link but I don't know how cause I don't do social media too well but if you google Tyrell Sloan it comes up right below his details.

There’s probably only one coach in the NRL who could maybe squeeze something out of Sloan and thats Bennett. But Bennett still won’t be able to go out and catch the ball, finish off the tries or make the tackles. Maybe the NRL is just the wrong competition for him and there’s no shame in that. Go to England and have fun would be my advice.
