Jeeze - Some People Just Don't Trust Lynchy...

From the SMH's "Sin Bin" column:

A gee-up in the other direction: British pundits were stunned that the Melbourne-Newtown pre-season game at Henson Park had a crowd of 8972. The Jets have been posting that figure since they were kicked out of the premiership in 1983.

Not strictly true - I believe it dates only from the late '90s - our Metro Cup period when we were getting about 150 people on a good day.

I've only ever heard one bloke complain. He said it was too mickey mouse and all his friends thought so too.

I love it and I'm not in the minority here.

If it's good enough for the Roosters, it's good enough for us.

Most importantly, WE'RE KIDDING - they weren't/aren't!

In any case who knows how many people are inside all those cars parked around the south end of the ground? They might all be hiding inside the boot or something.

At least it's a better excuse than saying all 5,000 of them went off for a hot-dog simultaneously (remember when Penrith photographed the Roosters' SFS crowd?).

I would have loved to have seen the food concession sales figures for that day - probably would have settled the argument for good when combined with the photographs.

Unless, of course, all the missing people were sharing each a bucket of chips with 300 others.
