Norths have had good trial form with wins over Penrith (not their fullstrength squad), Asquith and Western Suburbs and also making the Grand Final of the Kurri Kurri 7's . In fact Norths even signed up the man-of the match from that grandfinal - Ricky Morris from Lakes United.

Only 5 of the players named were with Norths last year but 3 others, Matt McDougall, Tim McDonald and Ryan Dempsey are injured.

How far do you think Tia Kilifi and Tuigamala will go?

The Penrith backline is pretty good, but there have been plenty of other quality backlines.

Looking at Round 1 teams from last year:
Balmain had Ben Jeffery, Matt Ryan, Rob Chauvet, Keith Eshman and Chance Bunce. Jeffery and Eshman both went on to play NRL, while Ryan and Bunce are now in PL and Chauvet was awarded Balmain Flegg's back of the year.

Canterbury had Adnan Saleh, Chris Vaefaga, Tim Winitana, John Koborsi and Adam Fielder. All 5 played Premier League by Round 11.

Cronulla had Isaac Gordon, Tu'u Maori, Travis Robinson, Matt Raftery and Simon Tufi. The first 4 are all played Premier League.

Newcastle had Sam Wooden, Aku Uate, James McManus, Johnathan Wright and Steve Gordon. McManus in now in NRL, Uate and Gordon are in PL and Wright and Wooden will be pushing for PL spots.

The Dragons had Jason Nightingale, Josh Morris, Junior Seumanatafa, Keith Lulia and Rota Setu. Morris and Lulia are now in NRL and Nightingale and Setu are both in PL.

The Roosters had Shaun Foley, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Jeremy Gordon, Troy Savage and Pierce Sapsford. Foley has played a lot of NRL and Kenny-Dowall in now in NRL while the other 3 are now in Premier League.

The Knights were the benchmark team all last season in Flegg - but this is a much weaker side than last year. The backs are still very impressive with Jenkinson and Richardson in particular being future firstgraders for sure, but the halves are not even close to the brilliant pairing we had last year - and only two forwards, Ling and Jeans, remain of the pack that dominated Flegg last season.
The halfback, Joel Brown, is the younger brother of firstgrader Riley Brown. He was our top tryscorer in Ball last season playing 5/8 and went away with the australian schoolboys as their second string hooker. He is very much a makeshift halfback with no real evidence that he has any playmaking skills. We have Sammy Stewart (the son of Slammin Sam) on the bench - and he is a halfback with good playmaking skills, but he is a tiny guy who will struggle at Flegg level.

All in all - a 20% weaker team than last season - but last season was the best Flegg side the Knights have ever put on the field.

Other players of Flegg age the Knights have;
Mullen is playing 5/8 in firstgrade.
Seu Seu is playing hooker in firstgrade.
Paterson is playing second row in fistgrade.
Walsh is playing halfback in PL.
Cooper is injured but will probably play PL.

Damn I was hoping Rod Griffen was still eligible for flegg seeing as he hasn't turned up in any of the other teams.

Looks like both him and Moa are injured

The sooner Balmain get Russell back the better - with him in it thats a pretty good side but without him I think we'll struggle.
