Jets and feeder club relationship?

It seems like it would be beneficial for the Jets if they were to have a direct feeder relationship to an NRL club in order to provide a pathway for current players and also up and coming Junior players. Previous Feeder relationships with the Auckland Warriors and Souths woud have helped, but those NRL clubs terminated those relationships.

The NSWRL Premier League is the flagship competition of the NSWRL and the main feeder competition to the NRL in the state of New South Wales.

Should the club explore setting up a feeder club arrangement with Canberra Raiders for the NSWRL Premier League, Jersey Flegg and SG Ball?

Canberra is based in the ACT and is the most distant of all the Premier League clubs from Sydney. All the NRL/NSWRL clubs have to pay significant costs in travel and accomodation for their teams to travel to the ACT to play the Raiders junior teams. Likewise, the cost for Raiders juniors to travel to Sydney and as far as newcastle eveyr 2nd weekend would be significant.

In a time when the pokie tax will bite, Newtown could provide a good cost saving opportunity for the Raiders and the NSWRL as a whole. Every Sydney team would be much happier if they had to travel less. It would also be an excellent base for promising potential Raiders to learn their RL, and give Newtown a much more important position in RL.

Any thoughts?

Joker,

You are correct but the problem is many clubs are looking at QLD teams. We believe we are an attractive option, as each year we keep losing promising young players to NRL teams, have a structure that allows us to develop players on the NRL teams guidelines etc. Maybe one day it will happen and we keep trying but until then we will keep plodding away.

Canberra have a Premier League team already. I think they also have a link wqith a Qld Cup team. A few teams are doing this, having links with Qld Cup and Premier League. I think we should look to teams without PL sides.

We would appeal to Melbourne, NZ, Brisbane and the Cowboys because it gives then a chance to have their fingers in both pies (NSW and Qld). They have a base in Sydney for training and for leaving players they are interested in and want to keep, but not quite ready to fully commit to.

We would be an asset to these clubs. Say they wanted to sign a Sydney bloke but didn't want him on the books. He could play for Newtown. Or there could be a Dustin Cooper situation where the clubs sign a Qld player in the condition he not appear in Qld Cup again. He could come to Newtown. Realistically, NZ and Brisbane would be less likely to need us as they have a huge wealth of existing networks. I think Melbourne and the Cowboys are who we should look to.

The Raiders have a link with the Souths-Logan Magpies, as they own the Logan City Leagues Club.

Regardless, I'd love this to happen because they are my 2 teams.

I can dream can't I?

Is John RIBOT still connected with the STORM?.

The game coming up against them on the 6th March should not hurt our chances of linking up with them if the boys really put in a good performance. Their play at the sevens tournament would suggest that they can.

What is Dustin COOPER doing this year. Is he getting a run in the STORMS full strength start side. He scored some good tries for us last season, however I thought needed to improve on his defensive game.
