Jets helping out Country Football

The Jets country partners the Parkes Spacemen had some Blue help on the weekend with Jets player Bruce Po going to play for them this weekend against Cobar. The Spacemen won 38-20 and Bruce according to Parkes officials had a strong game.

Is this a first with a Sydney team and not and NRL team either putting something back in to help country football?

When there are left over players from St George, they play in the Tooheys League.

But the Illawarra comp is fairly strong where go out over the divide and their is a difference in quality and numbers.

While I applaud the intiatives of the Saints, the Newtown one is different because Parkes is outside their area. The Tooheys League is part of Saints territory. Still, great stuff from both clubs.

I know the Raiders are an NRL team and not a Sydney club but they do similar to what the Dragons do and place players not required for Premier League in the Canberra Raiders Cup.
They offered special assistance last year to the struggling Yass Magpies by placing a number of Flegg players with the Club following the end of the Flegg season.
I dont know Newcastle's exact predicament though I know they were fielding Dean Amos was playing in the Knights PL team from the Wyong Roos either last year or the year before.
Whether they give as well as take though I dont know.
Guildford has previously had a relationship with the Kempsey Club from the North Coast though this has now been lost.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the quality of footy out west. Group 11 which is where Parkes play have a number of former first grade NRL players in it, and not just because they originally came from those areas. In fact a number of Group 11 teams beat Illawarra League teams in the Country Championship earlier this year.

But back to the main point you were making, it is good to see city teams and players lending a hand to country teams.

Now if only Parra would release Lyons to Wee Waa on a deal which ensures he cannot play for any other NRL club until his contract expires.

Also Newtown is not an NRL club has no leagues club grant yet is willing to send players out to Parkes to help them out.
