Joey and Gus

Was it just me, or did anyone else think Joey was about ready to thump Gus Gould during the Ashes commentary? Joey continually contradicted Gus on things like team harmony and how well the team was being coached, and in my opinion was just holding his tongue.

Just wishful thinking on my part?

Nah, I had the sound turned down so I could watch the game in peace without my wife waking up. In any case, I tend to have selective deafness when Gus is talking, I hear without listening, or simply mute the TV.

If either has anything negative to say, it is really irrelevant as neither was with the squad and would have little real knowledge of team harmony or how it is being coached. The coach isn't there to make friends, he's there to get results and, whatever your personal view is on Anderson or his methods, they've certainly done the job. The record books will show a 3-0 series whitewash with a below strength Australian team and that's good enough for me.

I actually thought Gus was quite tame.
He usually blasks Ando whenever he can.
He only really gave it to him about "going up the middle of the ruck" and in the last test, Ando's decision to skip Lewis and go with Smith.

Me too.

It just warmed my heart to think that Joey likes that blow-hard as little as I do.

phil gould embarrased himself with his arrogance on the ashes coverage

I have never really had much a problem with him in the past but I deadset wanted to hit him

he continually talked bullshit how GB would lose for the next 50 years etc etc etc

and how AUSTRALIA are so great

even though they were beaten by an understrength NZ side a couple of weeks

ago

him and anderson have one thing in common

I think they all looked really tired (Voss included). With the rugby going on so long the night before they wouldn't have had much sleep.
I listened to the radio and they had a BBC coverage. (2GB I think it was).

I believe there is little lover lost between Johns and Gould. Matt and Andrew both despise the man and make no secret of it in social settings.

You all know that the rumor is, they punched on after the grandfinal?

Sounds like just what you said it was, a rumour. Joey was in a neck brace at that time. I don't think he'd risk copping one on the jaw with his neck the way it is supposed to of been.

I really doubt Joey's neck was anywhere near as bad as he said it was.

I mean there was that time he was jumping about on the footy show reaching into a tank of vermin or bugs to try and grab a Mars bar from memory, he had full neck movement and his neck brace sprang off and he didnt even care, he kept doing it, he looked absolutely fine.

Furthermore he had been surfing all througout the injury and recently got back from the Maldives. He was hardly wrapped in cotton wool for the duration of the neck excuse.

Disclaimer: just my opinion.

Yes SS, I have my doubts as well.

IF not a neck injury , what was wrong with him ?

Neck injuries are well known for the over use of caution in their treatment, and also for not knowing the full extent or danger until later on.

Best case example was Craig Greenhill who played 5 minutes of front row football for the sharks, drove himself to Sutherland to have an x-ray after the match due to a tingly feeling in his arm, and then laughed when 2 doctors and an army of nurses ran out to the waiting room and shouted at him not to move a muscle !

He had made 4 tackles and driving to the hostpital ! NOW they want him to be still !

perhaps the neck brace was an overly cautious precaution, Johns certainly never looked too pleased about wearing it.

I think, for the forum's sake, we shouldn't go too much further into this. All we need is somebody to post the infamous 'rumour' which has brought about the closing of a few forums due to defamation. It's going into dangerous territory.

I like to think Johns' neck was very much injured...it makes me sleep easier at night.

Never a kind word for Anderson or Noddy from Gus. I can understand his resentment against Anderson. After all, Anderson did replace him as Bulldog's coach a million years ago. But his dislike of Noddy? Probably because he's Anderson's mate.

Think, Popper, think. :? Hmmm! I think Gus likes all players from former ARL clubs and those he thinks he can buy for Easts, PJ. I think he hates all players who play for former Super League clubs, PARTICULARLY those stars that he CAN'T buy for Easts.
Sheeesh! When I first read the question I thought it was a toughie, PJ. But when I thought about it, it wasn't so tough at all. :D
