If your wanting something more specific it comes down to the fact that the previous no 3's had either the entire signing bonus paid in the first season or offset language removed from the contract so if he gets cut by the Chargers he would be allowed to keep his signing bonus he got from the Chargers and potentially collect a new signing bonus from a new team... Essentially double dipping.
The Chargers argued that they have never allow either of those conditions in any of the rookie deals they have done post the CBA...
The problem with that argument was that they never picked top 3 before that so that logic was flawed.
The silly part of it was that if they have to cut Bosa before his deal is up.... They have far bigger issues than recouping the bloody signing bonus...
