Yup. Buderus was always considered an understudy half before he was thought of as a top line hooker.

All I'm saying is walters whilst in 1st grade for the knights played well.

He was considered before he did his knee, good enough by warren ryan to play infront of buderus. Do you disagree?

In those 6 or so games, he was good in defence and ran very well out of dummy half.

Have a chat to Paul Harragon, or look at an old footy show video. Harragon said walters was outstanding when he played for the knights. are you saying you have a better idea then Harragon a bloke that played with him? or warren ryan who used him at hooker?

Bring it, Buderus wasn't playing Hooker when Walters arrived at the club. So Walters wasn't keeping Bedsy out of the spot. Buderus only started playing that position after Walters retired, and he was put there as a fill in at the time, because we had no one else, he was so good he has stayed there. I'll stand corrected on that, but pretty sure that is the sequence of events.

As long as you're not making up threads to give me a hard time. Your opinion is always apreciated by me Tony.

It was in 1999 that steve walters joined the club. In 1998, buderus played hooker for the knights. He played in the finals matches at dummy half and played very well, even though he was playing with a stuffed shoulder. 1998 was the year Andrew Johns ordered for malcome really to take lee jackson off the field, since then Buderus had had a good go at hooker and was expected to be hooker in 1999. But the club signed walters and until he retired, he was seen by the coach as the best option for hooker.

There you go, the old memory must be fading in my old age. Non the less I really think at the time Bedsy was a novice at the position, where-as Walters was an old pro so to speak, it would have been a case of no contest at the time. I think you would agree Bedsy's rise in the ranks of Hookers would have eventuated well after Walters left. For what it's worth I thought he was a good signing at the time, unfortunately he wasn't here long enough to really make a mark.

Johhny Raper, Graeme Changa Langlands and Clive Churchhill are the best three players of all time they should have been made joint captain.

Yeah I agree that buderus has improved 10 fold since 99. But he still was a good player and showed a lot of promise obviously. Basically all I'm trying to say is, if walters was sh!thouse at dummy half, buderus would have been given a go, even though he wasn't upto the standards he is today, but less face it, no hooker is upto his standards today.

Walters played well for the time he was there in 1999. We had such a great and experienced front row at the start of 1999. Harragon, walters, butterfield. They just dominated any team they came up against. It was a shame harragon and walters retired early. Because after such a promissing start, we finished 7th and got knocked out week one of the finals by parramatta.

They can name who they like as captain. Once the players take the field, Wally will run the show, as always. Strangely, for such a difficult job, they have produced a side which it is fairly difficult to argue about. Personally, i think Sterling and Meninga are a bit iffy but their is no real argument. They have done a good job.

what a joke, obviously the people that voted didnt watch origin and broncos games in the 90's, all they have seen is newcastle matches or something otherwise alfie woulda gotten in ahead of joey easily.

Alfie???? Alfie who???? who's Alfie?????

Allan Langer thats who, you know the guy that captained the broncos to 4 premierships, was the australian halfback for most of the 90's and was named in the immortals shortlist!

and wally lewis is the best ever none of this langlands churchill 1950s stuff

Oh him! I'd forgotten about him, he's the bloke they changed the tripping rule to accomodate isn't he? I remember him now.

I loved his tackling technique. One arm around the throught then throws the leg out. One of the many dirty broncos players over the last 15 years.

and he never got called up for it why? because it WASN'T illegal! why not do it if its not illegal, he was obviously disadvantaged in defense coz of his height, so if it wasnt illegal then why not do it? storm are sorta doing the same thing now with the headlocks, itll eventually get banned but until then there gonna do it and why not when its not illegal. as if alfie was dirty anyway. he is one of the great nice blokes of league, any player thats played with him ipswich, broncos, qld or australia would tell you that.

Its illegal to use your legs to trip a player over,Pennywisealfie, this is usually a kneejerk reaction, not a deliberate ploy like Alfie used, granted he was tackling the player at the time, it is still not in the proper spirit of the game.

Yeh the old Alfie Langer eh, it's all come back now, funny how once your average footy player retires he sort slips into oblivion doesn't he? I remember him now, had the odd reasonable game.

Alfie was SSSSSSOOOOOO lucky not to break anyones leg during his time
Also, he played during the time when the league really needed Brisbane to take hold and expand the game.I think a little latitude was given to Langer in this matter. They still cry "Blue Murder" if one of their team is sited or suspended
172 days until tahu returns
