well it had to come and im glad he has hung up the boots.

i heard one guy telling me a direct quote from John Madden as he commentated on a Dallas game. Either Aikmen or Romo were playing QB and one of them wore contacts but couldnt find his before the game. After the first quarter someone found them.
John Madden Said. "Now This is a guy who can really see when he puts those contact lens's in"
The person who posted that ( in GLB) said he had trouble sleeping at night and he almost gave up watching NFL all together.

maybe its because im a new fan of the sport and his novelty factor hasn't worn off on me yet but i loved Madden. His commentary cracked me up, particularly his uncanny ability to work Brett Farve into every sentence.
Im gutted. :(

It doesn't surprise me, but it does sadden me. I have been watching the NFL on TV for a long time now and always loved to listening to John Madden. He and Pat Summerall formed the best commentating combo I have seen in any sport.

LOL another keyboard hero. If i said that in front of you, would you say what you typed to my face? why the insults buddy?

No I'm not a keyboard hero, I just don't take things that personally.
If an Idiot called me an idiot on a message board or down at the pub for saying something like that I'd just laugh, think I got a reaction from the post or comment and move on.
There's worse things in life than being called an idiot.
It's the one problem with email/message boards, you think you're saying something off the cuff but you can upset people, nothing like being face to face to see what the other person is really getting at, anyway pennywisealfie I'm sure there will be plenty of chances to call me an idiot in the future.
But really, saying Pat Summerall sucks? He and Madden were the voice of the NFL when I started to watch the game.

I thought Madden was great for the average fan who didn't know the x and o's and he dumbed it down to a level where newbies could pick up the game very quickly.

On another note, the guy who did the voice over for NFL films passed away at 73 from heart failure. He had the best voice ever and his season reviews were a thing of beauty.

Frank Caliendo is out of a job

Its been a bad 12 months for Caliendo. De niro and robby williams have been quiet, Bush is out of the white house, and now Madden retires. What next? Charles Barkley getting the punt on espn basketball coverage? That'd just be 'trbl'
