John Sutton - Up & coming superstar?

This isn't a bag out or anything. Serious question..

John Sutton has been labelled with the Marshall's, Tim Smith's & SBW's as a future superstar of the game. But is he a future superstar or is he a superstar by "South Sydney" standards? i.e Souths have been in the bottom of the competition for a while now so the "best player" player is often not as good as the best player at a better side?

He is a decent player but i have to say i was a bit dispaointed he didn't improve more as the season went on last year. And i know it is early days in 2006, but his first two games for Souths have been nothing to write home about either. He doesn't seem to have much creativity, and his kicking game isn't that flash.

Will we see him reach the heights he has been labelled to reach?

not in the souths side.... he needs a good team around him and if he plays like he does sometimes with souths with another club, you will see him gain a bigger reputation

The saying...

"Its hard to soar like eagles if your surrounded by turkeys", comes to mind.

I've mentioned it in a post somewhere that Sutton will never reach his potential at Souths given the current environment. He has not really shown anything in the 2 games they have played.

Give him some time to form a combo with a good halfback....he has something special not many players do....similar to Jason Smith he can command the pace of the game at his will.

He is a very, very talented player who only got better as the year went on in 2005... as InsaneInk said, he can slow things down to his pace and has a magic offload... HOWEVER it seems he's currently suffering from the enormous expectation placed on him by our supporters. He's too inexperienced to be able to control the games himself.. however, when he's got a halfback who's actually decent inside him, he's a very special player.

P.S. Sutton's not the only one who's form has been suffering this year.. Tim Smith has been shocking!

C'mon people..... hes only played 2 games this season, and the quality of the players around him didnt stop him being a big impact on games last season, so i dont buy that eagles and turkeys crap. Its also worth noting in 2 games he has been partnered with 2 diff halfbacks, and in the 1st game, walker was only there for just over half way through of the match and Champion is not a specialist half either.
If he is to become another victim of the infamous "2nd year syndrome", it may also have to do with him establashing himself as a threat and opposing sides targeting him more in defence to tire him out during the game. Either way, its only been 2 games, give the kid a chance.

Not in the last two games. Along with Hindmarsh he has been starring for us, controlling things well.

If Sutton played for a side better than Souths, he would be considered better than Marshall or SBW.

You obviously havent watched any Parra games this year, whilst he hasnt been brilliant, he's kicking game has been good.

I thought Sutton's game on Sunday was a bit ordinary, but he's talented, he might step up against the Sharks this weekend, every one has at least one bad game.

I think he has potential, and i think playing around better players with better facilities may have seen him develop better. But his lack of pace & involvement suggests to me that whilst he will be a good performer at Souths and win them the odd game, he doesn't look like he is going to be an International player whihc is how he was pegged.

sutton is a very good player, and im a cowboys supporter, his first two games have been hot/cold but look for him with more gametime under his belt to really take charge of souths, i see him in as a freddy fittler , ashley harrison, florimo type of player, im tipping him to play one origin game of the bench, good strong running game, good playmaking skills can play centre and lock if need be, but yeah good player
