John Te Reo

Looks like another promising Kiwi has stuffed up, and the Broncos will terminate his contract

For those not in the know, Te Reo and Lacey chased a guy while out on the turps, and Lacey hit the bloke who is now in hospital with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain. Lacey has been charged and released on bail, and the police are going to talk to Te Reo as well. Word i am hearing is both will lose their Broncos contract

What is it with some of the young kiwi fellas, guys like Latu, Talaupapa, Faumuina etc. RIsk everything for a night on the piss

*Edit- Stuffed up the name in the title, got him half confused with Ben Te'o from the Tigers, John Te Reo is our man in this story

Dear oh dear, looks like League will be leading the news again!

Booze is not the be all and end all, wish they'd remember that before they **** their careers up. Take a leaf off our man Pricey...staying off the giggle juice works for him pretty well!

I have taken the liberty of changing your title Beavers Headgear.

Not sure that Ben's mum and dad would enjoy the intimation mate.

Cheers

Price is also in his 30s with a family. Most young people are going to drink; it's a big part of "growing up" in NZ and Australian culture as well as other western cultures. I'm sure pricey hit the turps in excess many a time in his earlier days. It's no excuse for sure, but it is a big part of being young and in most cases it's pretty unreasonable to expect someone to abstain.

But then i'm not really an agressive drunk myself, hah.

Which brings in another point

Are the Broncos correct in sacking him, when the police have not even had a chat to him yet

Broncos give the players the boot if they are in trouble end of story. But im suprised Lacey smashed someone. Hes 3ft 9 with platforms on so must have been a hell of a jump first

So do you guys reckon it's worth signing Te Reo or is he the last thing we need? Maybe someone like Wiki could straighten him out.

not sure whether or not signing him would be the answer. No doubt it would be beneficial for him... but is he the type of guy we want at the club?

And isnt he a hooker? We have enough of those

well just because he got in trouble - doesnt mean he is a bad person either or one with serious issues. We dont know his involvement yet.

In terms of signing - I think he would be a perfect signing he plays a hooker/lock and would be understandably dirt cheap. Great depth signing and would push fien, henderson etc for a spot on the bench

Lets take advantage of the development and time the broncos have put into him and sign him up. Broncos dont just develop nobodies - one of the hardest clubs to crack.

Do we still have one spot open?? I would rather him than Corey Lawrie.

Roosters could sure use Te Reo. We have James Aubusson & George Ndaira at the moment...the Aussie & the lebanese. Add Te Reo the Kiwi in, & maybe pick up George Gatis the Greek for match payments, & we will be on top of the world!

Lol, being a 30s something family man doesn't stop a lot of people I know! But I was listening to an interview with Steve Price on Radio Sport the week building up to their last game, and he mentioned his attitude to alcohol: He gave it up early, for his love of the game to keep himself fit and give him an edge over other players. He still drinks a beer or two- literally- in social circles but that's about it.

Sounds good to me!:) Others should learn from him

Well, I'm keen to know more about his skills. I posted the same question about him elsewhere, if he's up and coming that's great for us in the long run. We lack real hooking talent even coming through.

I think that's precisely the point of this topic the fact he is skilled and quite a young talent- But jepodised the potentially great career for a night on the piss that's gone horribly wrong. It's sad and tragic (for the victim as well, obviously).
'Abstinance' to alcohol is not necessary...just the few being idiots need telling loudly this **** is not on. Being a part in beating someone up should not just be chalked up as a 'oh well, a mistake was made' moment, then let him sign up somewhere else- At least not without ramming home what he's done and making sure it's not repeated or that alcohol is a problem. And I don't care how talented they are.

It has to be said though, when you take into account how many young players are in the NRL, or the Rugby equivalents in Australasia, that it's only a minority that end up in these situations...despite what news stories suggest. Most behave! But IMO, the Broncs did the right thing in ripping up his contract, and I hope other clubs will do the same if other players act up in very serious situations like these.

Will it include a big name like Doug Howlett?! Sorry, couldn't resist as it's the topic of the day! ;-)
