As most forumers would have noticed i`m one for promoting good young players to the top grade sooner than later. However the one player i`m feeling a bit sorry for at the moment is Johnny Wilson. He had a great year last year finishing as the clubs leading tryscorer. He apparently had some good offers to go elsewhere but stuck loyal to the Tigers and now after one or two defensive lapses and one game where his hands were terrible he finds himself stuck in Premier League! He`s still big, strong and reasonably fast and for any old Magpie fans he reminds me a fair bit of old Wests player Alan Geelan! For that fact I can`t see how he wouldn`t be a vey good winger if played their. He certainly knows his way to the tryline and could come in and take the heat off the forwards when they are tired.

As far as i'm concerned he's not a top class Centre. He's solid, and fair enough, he made the position his own last year with his rapid rate at scoring tries, but one season doesn't make a player. He lacks genuine speed, explosiveness and spark in attack. He's a big lad, who i think, has more utility value and is suited to a backrower role than an outside back one.

No one said he`s a top class centre. But he`s definately not slow,he always runs hard and I still believe he`d make a good winger! His height under the high ball would be an advantage as well.

He's not a very tall man - and lacks the vertical leap of the really athletic wingers!

I agree with Gobbs that he lacks the explosive speed off the mark of the best three-quarters - but makes up for that with strong line-running and a low centre of gravity!!
