Chris Johns has nothing on Thurston.

Come back to this when Thurston actually has a few premierships under his belt (in which he wasn't a cameo benchy), has learned to tackle and has a few more dally M's and golden boots. Thurston has a f**king gun team around him up there and can't get a trophy. Thurston is barely in Langer, Stuart, Daley class yet... let alone Lockyer... LET ALONE the great one himself.

Thurston is nowhere near the complete package, and never been able to shine in a team of nuffies. Thurston doesn't have the super rare quality of making the player around him, even the shittest ones, into stars. Thurston plays about 20-30 minutes a game (the back end of each half) and is extremely often invisible outside of that. Aside from a few form slumps and injury, every club game Johns played was the Joey show.

The comparison is insulting to Johns and embarrassing for Thurston.

Thurston has probably had a good 40-50% of games that would be in the same league as Johns, which is a great achievement. But he is nowhere near him in being able to keep that level of performance up consistently every single round.

Better what? in 50 years time Thurston will only be remembered in the NRL archives, Andrew Johns will be remembered forever for his skill. Even if another half comes along that is better.

I would still take JT over any other half in the comp now though
