Jonah Lomu says he's delighted with his comeback after he got through an hour's work to help his Cardiff side to a comfortable 25-10 win over Calvisano in their Heineken Cup match in Italy on Sunday.
"I'm just so pleased to have come through the game and be part of a winning team," Lomu told media after the match.
"It was great just to be out there playing a sport that I love. It's a privilege to be out there especially after everything I've been through."
Lomu, making his Cardiff debut and playing his first competitive match in almost three years, didn't get on the scoresheet but attracted all the interest in the sold out fixture at the small Italian club.
It was not long before he touched the ball and his burst led to the game's first try after seven minutes.
Lomu crashed into the line, flanker Andy Powell kept play flowing before lock Robert Sidoli dotted down.
Play eluded Lomu for much of the match but he showed plenty of power when he did get the ball by all accounts.
Cardiff were made to work hard for their win but two quick tries in three minutes either side of Lomu's departure gave them maximum points.
"Physically I feel fine and I enjoyed taking the bumps and being involved in a tough game of rugby," he said.
"There was no premeditated plan to come off after an hour but obviously the coaches have their plans and they stick to them. I'm just so happy to have played and I can move forward from here."
Lomu is playing in the Heineken Cup after securing a seen month deal with Cardiff. His NPC comeback in New Zealand was put on hold because of a shoulder injury that ruled him out of playing for North Harbour.
He had marked his return to action in June following a kidney transplant by playing in Martin Johnson's testimonial match at Twickenham where he dislocated the shoulder in scoring a try.
In other matches Bath beat Glasgow 31-26, Ulster beat Saracens 19-10, Munster beat the Dragons 24-8 and Sale edged Castres 20-16.
