Been following him closely, and i think he's been really impressive at times. He's had his moments but flashed incredible ability at the tackle posotion

Brian Baldinger has a really good break down (he does good work and well worth a follow) on twitter of his work

Looking very likely that he makes the eagles team so they can continue to develop him

Seems like he’s a sure thing to make the roster
No way Philly exposes him to waivers given the development path he’s on right now

Amazing result for a kid who didn’t know how to put on pads properly in week 1 pre season

Have the coaches had much to say about him?

You don't want to make the same mistake you did with Villanueva ;)

Mike Groh our OC recently said they were very pleased with how he's progressing and impressive with attention to detail. They say his technique is improving every day. The feeling with the beat writers is he's going to make the team.

Re:Villanueva
Different situation, we still had JP who clearly had many years left in him, and we had drafted Johnson the year before (maybe that same year?) so our tackle situation was pretty much set in stone for the next 3-4 years at least when we had Villanueva... also he came to us as a DE, and wasnt very good... the credit for him belongs to the Steelers for immediately making him a OT and developing him there

But i think it is something the eagles will think about, it took Villanueva 12 months on a practise squad, and another year on the active roster before he was ready to be a starter. And even then his first half of the season was pretty ordinary.

Thats 2 years of effort for the steelers to get him where he is, and he'd played football before, Mailata seems to be progressing really quickly but i think that tells you how far this thing still has to go. He's the old "a year away from being a year away" imo. But if they can justify keeping him on the team, and getting him 2nd team reps and keep learning, that's going to be huge for his development

The Steelers have an English union convert who's going to be a free practice squad guy no matter what, some international pathways program or something, so there'll be the usual 10 + this guy, all the AFCN teams have one.

Maybe they should be taking a wider view rather than just Europe.

There is apparently going to be an international combine on the Gold Coast in October this year, where about 75 athletes from Australia, NZ, and surrounding pacific islands will get a chance to show case their athleticism

So that's a big start. A mate of mine who lives up there was saying apparently they are suggesting the NFL is looking to take the best 5 they can find and put them into the international pathways system.

Amazing stuff from Mailata.

I hope people back home in Aus understand how amazing it is for him to make a squad with no experience.

IMO it’s a bigger achievement that Haynes... due to him playing at tackle...

Dude is getting some major love on Twitter, Eagles Message Board and by Mayock in the booth
He's making the roster and is showing signs that with more development, he might be the heir to the Jason Peters throne.

I've been focused almost entirely on him during this game, his 4th ever, and he's just bullying guys who are scrapping and clawing for a roster spot and have played this game their entire life

Kendall Reyes, a 6 year vet who was once a 2nd round pick, was getting absolutely dominated by Mailata.

What a story this guy is
