I love these convenient traditionalists who refuse to accept that contracts as they used to be are dead and buried. In most cases, they aren't worth the paper they're written on. In fact, they have been dead since Gordon Tallis sat out the year.

Agreed.

I wonder whether they are more or less just simply letters of intent.

But I guess it does go a long way in how a club treats the player.

And to another extent,the agent.

Broncos stance IMO is fair enough, although I can see why some would question it considering the barba/Milford situation, but I think there are enough differences to separate those situations.

I reckon Bronco recruitment is on the nose, they once liked to only persist with players that Qld would be associated with . . . Milford and Barba are NSW material

There is very little benefit for the Broncos by releasing hoffman from 2 years of his contract, they are short on quality backs and they aren't going to be giving a leg up to their opposition at their detriment. It's not like they need the transfer money or cap space either.

Hoffman needs to grow up, the sense of entitlement some of these brats have these days is astounding, you don't get to pick where you play and you can either be playing first grade where the coach picks you or you can be playing qld cup. He has had 4 years to nail down fb and he hasn't been able to, he still can't even run a sweep play because he can't draw and pass and when hodges very gently suggests that's the area of his game he needs to work on he has a cry.

Appears as if the dogs have based their whole season on the expectation hoffman would be their fb, pretty desperate. Both the dogs and hoffman have misread the situation if they think he's going to get a release this season.

Our Josh Hoffman is contracted until the end of 2015: fact. I don't see the humour here.

The Brisbane Broncos offer players the chance to escape one of the world's most expensive and overrated cities that being Sydney: I don't see a problem. We helped Ben B###a and we in turn hope he repays the favour on the field. Let me see, stay in Bankstown or move to Brisbane? As some say on this forum, "it ain't even close"...you take the money and run to sunny Brisbane.

Fair play. Move on. Nothing to see here.

Brisbane is a large, uncultured bogan city with very little to do.

The only reason an NRL player would leave one of the world's greatest cities in Sydney for Brisbane would be because they miss mummy and daddy.

Define the word 'Fail';

I appreciate the time and effort in replying though like the NSW Blues, the time and effort hasn't really done you any favours here.

Another nothing article with no direct quotes from anyone about anything pertinent pertaining to the title of the article.

Pretty standard stuff, then.

If Josh leaves he will be earning a few hundred grand by playing FB at a big Sydney club with high expectations and have Des yelling at him every day - tough job.

If he stays in Brisbane he'll be in a middle of the pack club in a one team town and will probably stand on the wing while playing for a coach nobody seems real worried about. And he'll earn a few hundred grand for it. Cruisy gig.

Soft option is to stay in Brisbane, and it's the smart play. I'd rather see him man up.

Brisbane sit as arguably the biggest club in rugby league. Middle of the pack club my ass.

"Manning up" would be to not to run from a club that developed him and fight for the jersey that everyone is telling him as the incumbent he has lost. Ben B###a is likely to play some 5/8 due to injury/circumstance meaning Hoffman will get what he wants: the fullback position and with it the chance to secure it long term.

The double standards exhibited by the Broncos on this really are laughable. What a disgusting, vile club they are.

We buy players. Always have done when needed despite having arguably the largest nursery. When it comes to letting our players go: why should we if we feel a player can help us? Hoffman can help us as he is a world class player and he should remain here until his contract ends.

The Broncos management should be applauded for taking the position they have here.

You would have to be pretty simple to think the Bulldogs players have to live in or near Bankstown to play for the Bulldogs. They don't even have to play in Bankstown.

I think its the fact that Brisbane have a history of inducing other players to break their contracts to "come home" (despite home sometimes being several hundred KM's from Brisbane) that people find somewhat ironic man2iel.
