How people are comparing this to the Barba situation is beyond me. Barba was due to wanting to move closer to home( weather u believe it or not that was what was said). Hoffman reason is he is throwing his toys out of the cot cause he doesn't get to play the position he wants to. Anybody who watches broncos games can clearly see he is a much better winger then fullback but the bulldogs will figure that out pretty quickly.

Happy to let him go but I'm expecting the full transfer fee back from the bulldogs while not being able to make anymore money then his current contract just like Barba.

So Griffin gave his blessing but White's the one stonewalling him..

You can't really force someone to stay, I can see him being released a week before the season starts.

This is what I don't understand. The player doesn't want to be there, the coach doesn't want him there. Why is management keeping him?

My position has changed on this subject given the article posted by El Diablo.

Prior to that article my understanding was Josh Hoffman was now a happy camper happy to play for the Brisbane Broncos. This is apparently not correct. We now have a player who is wanting out of the club. From my view, as much as I don't want to release a player of his talent, I reluctantly let Josh Hoffman go so long as we get some compensation from the Canterbury club. There is no winner in keeping a player at any club if he doesn't want to be there. We have the game's best junior nursery and we will replace a Josh Hoffman just like we have done time and time again.

So long Josh, all the best.

Hardball. They're pushing the boundary to see how much they can milk from the dogs. Typical business acumen. When you're the CEO of a multi million dollar brand, nothing is free.

I may add that we are talking about a team, who just made Hodges their co-captain as a team player, when he publicly came out and criticized a pro footballer (one of his own team mates) that he can't pass a ball.

Justin Hodges said:
"Hoffy is a great player, but at the moment I don't think he is the right guy for fullback,"

Justin Hodges said:
"He's one of the best runners I have seen with the football, but he just has to work on his passing game. That's where I think he falls down."

Justin Hodges said:
"I think Barba's arrival will be good for him,"
"It will be good competition.

Justin Hodges said:
"It [picking fullback] will be a real tough choice for Hook [Broncos coach Anthony Griffin].
"But it will be good for the Broncos having those two guys firing."

Justin Hodges said:
"Maybe that same role Hoffy and I played towards the end of the year, swapping over, I think they can still do that,"

Yeah, he really blasted him. So unprofessional.

Even ardent Hodges haters around here were defending those comments, and ridiculing Hoffman and his Dad for taking offence to them.

Read the article again perhaps.
I would suggest you do the same...

The hypocrisy around here really makes me laugh. Good stuff. Well done all.

How exactly is it good business acumen to have an unhappy player, wasting a fair chunk of the salary cap (I've heard between $300k and $400k but take that with a grain of salt) on him to be a winger. Money which could be used to upgrade numerous junior players coming through at the moment so they don't go to other clubs.

If the Broncos aren't getting the results at the start of the year, pressure will be on Griffin and the club isn't even letting him have the players that he wants. Will the Broncos CEO stand down because of poor results? Or will he sack the coach?

how many months did the dogs deny barba had asked for a release?

Couldn't have been too long because the Broncos never offered him a contract until late in the year right? Cause the Broncos would never try an induce a player to break a contract. Why would he ask for a release months before another offer was on the table?

Yeah he moved to Brisbane to be closer to his family in Mackay, and closer to his missus who wants nothing to do with him

Maybe you should ask your own club that...

First of all, the coach will be gone. The CEO won't sack himself. He's the top of the food chain and Griffin is already walking on eggshells. Second, Hoffman's form hasn't suffered as a result of all this. He has been solid. The Broncos probably don't see it as a waste. Whether I like it or not, thanks to the media overhyping him, he sells jerseys. If we're looking at a bottom 8 finish, that might change things. Personally, if this is going anywhere, It'll happen before mid season and the deadline.

I'm guessing you forgot he has two children...

Prob didn't forget just doesn't go well with his argument haha I can see the releasing him late in the day on March 7 just so the dogs can't register him for the game that night lol( most likely won't happen but still would be pretty funny)

yes, Hoffman's father is to blame for Hodges mouth...

I give Canberra credit for standing firm with Milford, Canterbury should have told you guys were to go.

I do sincerely apologise if I offended your righteous club, and their irrelevant status of 2 consecutive bottom 8 finishes, now likely to be 3.

So now you think clubs should force players to stay despite them being unhappy? That is quite the contradiction of your original post.

The Broncos didn't finish bottom 8 in two consecutive years!

Yeah nah I didn't forget about them. But again, they live with the missus who wants nothing to do with him.

Or maybe she really does. I'm just thinking it's convenient she moved to Brisbane when her family is in Mackay aswell

The bulldogs are playing exactly the same game the Broncos were last year with Barba, you cant condemn one and not the other.

Ahh don't know what world you are living in but the Broncos made the 8 in 2012 in the real world.
