Ok, just got through watching Judgement Day (taped it this morning), and I've got to say- whilst it was a pretty flawed PPV at points, it still made Raw's 'Backlash' look like an utter joke. Only quick results and notes here. I'm sure you can find more in-depth reports elsewhere.
MnM defeated Haas/Holly to retain the Tag Titles
I hadn't seen MnM wrestle before, and whilst they weren't bad, I thought Haas was the stand-out in this match. He was really snapped off some crisp moves, and looked the goods. Was a little bummed to see him be the one to take the pinfall (dusty), but it wasn't a bad opening match. Melina shouldn't be allowed on the mike without a proper script. She sounded stupid.
Carlito defeated Big Show
Boring, sh*tty match. Big Show can wrestle good matches, but this one was slow and full of messy spots. Carlito got off next to no offence, and it was clear they were using this match to build up Matt Morgan. He niggled during the match, and with the ref down, hit an F-5 to give Carlito a soft win. Bit of a dud match, really.
Paul London defeated Chavo Guerrero to retain the Cruiserweight Title
The match started slowly, but London is a superb athlete, and it showed in this clash. Would love to see him against the likes of Rey, Benjamin, or RVD. Chavo's good, but more of a brawler. London's abilities weren't fully excercised, but glad he retained. My friends who hadn't seen the WWE in recent years, were in love with London.
Booker T defeated Kurt Angle
Somewhat confusing finish to the match, with it looking like Kurt had made the pin, but Booker was declared the winner. Was pissed off about it, really. After enduring one of the worst written fueds in WWE history, I'd have liked to see Angle score a dirty victory. Instead he lost out to a messy finish, and got beaten up by Sharmell. Some memorable moments (an exchange of attempted finishers culminated in The Book End)- but even Angle couldn't save this match.
Orlando Jordan defeated Heidenreich to retain the US Title
May I just say how much I love Heidenreich's new angle. I hadn't seen it yet, but laughed my ass off as he 'Heidenreiched up' during the match, and went looking for a friend pre-show. Was a bit of a sh*t match, again. Jordan had most of the offence, and whilst the crowd were very vocal in their support of Heidenreich, he didn't get off much of his own. Ended with a sloppy DDT, which didn't impress the crowd at all. Afterwards Alex (the fan) came into the ring and helped him up. Was so bad that it was good.
Rey Mysterio defeated Eddie Guerrero by DQ
Great match, although probably not as good as their Wrestlemania clash. There was a lot more brawling and intensity in this one, however, and they played up the 'Eddie can't beat Rey' thing. In the end, after Chavo's failed interference, Eddie snapped and laid into Rey with a chair. Looks like they'll keep this one going for a while. Works for me, since they work a good match, and they're both great characters.
John Cena defeated JBL in an I Quit Match to retain the World Title
Wow. I was seriously impressed with this match. JBL and Cena haven't wrestled any 'classics' in my eyes, but this match was a top shelf finish. There were slow points, but they were more than compensated for by some good spots. JBL being back-dropped through an announce table (from another table), JBL being suplexed onto his limo roof, being tossed off the truck, and all that jazz. Cena spent much of the match really bleeding from a chairshot, and Jesus, it looked bad. All over him. JBL got split open when he was sent head-first into a TV, but Cena was really looking cut. It was still pumping from his face as the match ended. A bit of an anti-climactic end, with JBL just saying 'I Quit' seemingly out of the blue (although Cena holding the muffler from a semi-trailer was apparently the cause). Cena sent JBL through the Judgement Day set after the bell, and then played to the crowd. Jesus, there was a lot of blood.
