Juicing

Does anyone here juice? If so, any good recipes?

For those who don't have about juicing some say it can cure diseases and cancers.

Here is some basic info:

"Juicing adds to the benefits of carrots. Because juicing removes the fiber, the important nutrients and phytochemicals found in carrots and other plants are absorbed more easily by our bodies-sometimes within minutes-without too much effort on the part of the digestive system. As well, more of the nutrients are absorbed; fiber is not present to escort some of them out of the body.

Fresh fruit and vegetable juices also are rich in enzymes. Enzymes spark the hundreds of thousands of chemical reactions that occur throughout the body; they are essential for the digestion and absorption of food, for conversion of foodstuffs into body tissue, and for the production of energy at the cellular level. In fact, enzymes are essential for most of the building and rebuilding that goes on in our bodies every day. Without enzymes, and the sparks they provide, we would be helpless: a bag of bones, unable to walk, talk, blink, or breathe. When foods are cooked, enzymes can be destroyed; that is why raw foods and juices are so important to us. They provide us with an excellent source of all-important enzymes."

I was just going to start this, then felt it's better I do a search.

Good thing I did. Seems though it didn't get much traction last time.

I just got myself a cold press (masticating juicer).

What I felt was similar to what you disclosed nearly 4 years ago

It effectively removes the nutrients and enzymes from the fibre (which blenders fail to do), and there is a great energy saving in terms of your digestive system basically has a meal/day off.

Well I just juiced a combination of

1 raw beetroot
1 celery stalk (+ a shedload of celery leaves, which would otherwise be a waste product)
2 apples
2 carrots

Anyone else juice (heh)?

I have a few times being a diabetic. How did your juice taste? Is the apple used as a sweetener only?

Apparently the Ninja one is supposed to be quite good, according to the infomerical on channel 74. ;-)

Juice tasted very earthy, I've never had beetroot outside of a tin before. The texture is quite hard, like a radish and it's taste dominated the juice.

The apple was to sweeten it yes.

Also I was astonished with the yield, over 4 cups.

Afterwards I also made a juice of two apples and half a lemon. Much superior to any commercial juice I've tasted.

My beetroot juice is known to be a liver cleanser. My piss was red and I've had acute cramps around my liver today.

As long as you are not simply having juice, and you are eating a nutritionally balanced diet otherwise, juicing can be a great way to get in a bunch of micronutrients the body needs.

Be mindful that it can also be quite easy to have a high calorie intake through juices - but that comes down to planning and knowledge.

Also blenders will not remove fibre (which isn't necessarily a bad thing since most people don't get enough fibre) and the temperature created by the motor and the friction of the blades will break down enzymes and micronutrients.

I wonder how many people would talk about the other juicing if I started a thread here.

Maybe too open and too many idiots.

You just have to be very careful when discussing it on a public forum. Obviously no 'hooking up connections' and what not, or probably any specific program discussion would be tolerated for legal reasons.

Be too much like hard work to stop people asking for sources and prices etc.

LU isn't the place for it.
